It's not a rumor, as he was back in the hospital not too many weeks back....pneumonia, or something similarly concerning, if I am recalling his Facebook posting to friends correctly. It's really been one thing after another for several years now for him, with each being very serious.

'Sorry to hear that...

That's pretty cool, Bobby!

Indeed, is that Colorado State Patrol?

Thanks for posting that up, Bobby. |
I made this display board the other day
from scraps I had. The metal sign is the inspection cover from a computer tower i had scraped out. The HIGHWAY PATROL was surplus from the door decal project. The red and black vinyl letters are from a garage sale sign i made years ago and the patch was something i had bought at a patch collectors show in Phoenix years ago. I salvage and re-use everything i can. It may not be fancy buy it works for Me. http://i57.tinypic.com/j65yqg.jpg |
Nice sign, Andy.
To the unwashed (those who know nothing of these cars), you almost need to have a sign that tells them that the car has been restored to its in-service condition. So many people think they were sold looking like that. Of course, a quick conversation will set them straight, right? ;) |

I am finally able to post an update from the garage painter for Jack's 89 Ranger. As a reminder, here's what the paint looked like from the factory -
http://www.specialservicemustang.net...1&d=1432749673 The body work is finally done, and the truck is blocked and in primer (until this past weekend). We are keeping the original colors, but decided to change up the color scheme, per the attached teaser pic below. |
That looks sharp.

Looking good !!!

Thanks guys. I'm anxious about how the cab will turn out. The idea is very "old-school", similar to these two trucks -

Another pic from the painter. It's hard to tell, but the top and back of the cab are white. Now he needs to paint the new hood and NOS tailgate and it will be out of paint jail.
|
freaking beautiful !
You are installing a Coyote motor in this one right? ;) |
Very nice!!

Fresh pics!

Wow, that looks so good! What is the interior like? That thing has 10x more character than 99% of vehicles on the road today. Love it.
|
Thank you! The interior is blue (XLT trim level), and it looks good for its age. The headliner is probably the worst part of it. I'll post up a photo later on...
|
That came out great, Bill.
|
Thank you! The Ranger goes in for LineX tomorrow, which will be applied to the bed (under the lip), the tailgate, the bed-mount spare tire holder, seat frame (think Subaru Brat), and speaker boxes for the bed. I will post up the photos once it is all put together. :)

I saw this truck over the weekend. It is freaking gorgeous !!
|
Wow. There are 7 SSP Mustangs for sale on ebay right now.
That doesn't happen very often... |
there are a couple of good deals there as well. Some are well....not so good.
Somebody needs to buy the 86 Colorado car listed on this site. Smoking good deal. |
I'm just curious. Now that the Gatorbacks are being reproduced, it is possible (albeit expensive) to have a full set of five new tires for an SSP (including the spare). My question is this - Since the Gatorback is a directional tire, which way does the spare get mounted? I would guess the passenger side since road debris is more likely to be towards the side of the road. How did Ford mount the Gatorback on the spare wheels?

+1.
I haven't found an original '85-'86 spare in any of mine. I don't think it makes much of a difference unless it's raining, though. |
you can drive them for short periods regardless of rotation (per the Michigan State Police 1989 "Ford Mustang Pursuit Vehicle Introduction" video. :)
|
Would the MCA have any guidelines on this question? Granted, SSP cars were the only Mustangs (to my knowledge) to come with a full-size spare, but I wonder if they have considered this when they judge the cars? I'm not looking to restore my SSP to high MCA judging standards (I want to improve my SSP, not make it a trailer queen), but I would like to get the little details right when I have the ability to do so.
|
you can mount it either way. It will not hurt the tire to drive it backwards.
|
Some SSP's have the spare tire encapsuled with the interior cover. For instance the GSP'swith their radio units and camera unit's screwed through the finish cover directly into trunk floor so there is no access to the spare ( I have however seen a couple that had a slit down the middle, but only on a few, most I have seen were not cut). With that being said the judges would not even have access to see the spare.
|
Bobby,
I have seen several, what I believe, early cars with original trunk cardboard (full-size). Is this what you are talking about? |

Not the boards, but the trunk mat ( the felt like cover) |
Thanks for the input, gentlemen. I may not opt for the repro Gatorbacks on the PCSD car. Instead, I may buy a set of correctly-sized BFG Radial T/A tires. Then I'll take the difference in cost and get the wheels powdercoated satin black. I guess it all depends on how much work it will take by Bobby to get the paint where it needs to be. The car is loosely scheduled to be delivered to Bobby on Friday (8 days from when it was picked up!)

Is anyone taking advantage of Black Friday online sales to buy parts for their SSP? I need to get a few things myself for the PCSD car.
|
not me.....another work day....blah.

I ordered some parts today, in honor of it being Cyber Monday today. I bought some moldings and such for the PCSD car. Two shipments will be going directly to Bobby, and one will be routed through me first and end up at his body shop. I am excited about the prospect of how nice this car will be when Bobby is done with it! :D Once completed, there will be a roadtrip in my future with the F150 and a U-Haul trailer. Then I will turn my attention to some drivetrain/suspension issues, as well as getting new tires. :) |
