Stumbled on this pic of a '85 Oklahoma SSP on Facebook. The individual stated he took the picture in '87 with his dad at an event where OKHP had it on display.

Looks like 84 or earlier wheels/hub caps on it.

I noticed that as well. Allegedly, '85 is the only year OK ordered any. Here is another in-service pic, with the same style wheels. Every in-service pic I've seen, some with a pushbar and some without, has the same pre-'85 wheels.

These are the original wheels that came with our '85 OK SSP.

Great pic!

The AOD-equipped, '85 CFI SSPs came with the earlier, 14 inch rims.

That explains it. Thanks!

nice save. Super rare car !!

EXNODRAMANOTCH 12-04-2015 02:29 PM

I just noticed the unique rear quarter color break in the paint. Did Ford do that at the factory, or was that done by the OHP?

FoxChassis 12-04-2015 04:34 PM

Looks like the Diplomats might be painted that way too.

Is it supposed to mimic the outline of the state?

What a great kid! I turn 50 soon. Maybe I will steal this idea and throw a Thank You Party for Cops at my Masonic lodge.

The March 2016 issue of Mustangs Times contains the following article about the owner of a restored 1991 Texas DPS Mustang -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...DPSarticle.pdf

That's some really good press about our little niche in the Mustang collector car hobby.

Perhaps. I received the Mustang Times last night. Maybe it was due to how late I was reading, but the article reads as though it was never a Texas DPS SSP, but rather served elsewhere.

I agree. I re-read that paragraph on the second page and the wording DOES make it sound like he cloned the car into a TxDPS unit. But who could blame him - those TxDPS units are so hard to find! [/sarcasm]

I'm not throwing stones - it's his money to spend as he sees fit. I'm just happy to see another SSP Mustang get some press.

At least it sounds as though the seller is forthcoming with the car's history; thus making for a well-informed buyer.

MOstang 03-07-2016 09:12 PM

I noticed that FB post and wondered if the car was same one as from the Mustang Times magazine, given it had the article affixed to a board in the photo at the car show. Doesn't seem to have the lightbar on it at the car show, though.

Spent Saturday disassembling and pulling the engine / trans in the '88 NYPD GT Hatchback. Should be dropping off at the body shop this coming week.

nice.

Sweet looking forward to seeing this one in person👍

Bullitt1609 04-08-2016 10:58 AM

Stumbled on this Montana Highway Patrol picture on Facebook. I have not seen it before. I believe this is the first confirmation that they did in fact test one in '82.

NoDrama43 04-08-2016 04:42 PM

:Wow:

oh yea......maybe the car Mike has?

nice !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

28HopUp 04-08-2016 04:59 PM

It sure looks like Mike's 82 "Marketing Vehicle", although Montana is nowhere near Louisiana. It might be worth pulling a Marti Report on the other VIN (CF234609) in the 2-car batch with Mike's SSP to see where the ordering dealer was located. Regardless, that's a GREAT picture Jonathon! :2thumbs:

Bullitt1609 04-08-2016 06:03 PM

I couldn't believe it when I saw it on Facebook this morning. I agree, it looks just like Mike's '82. If this isn't the same car and there were multiple "Marketing" cars tested by different agencies, I wonder if they were all basically identical.

I have two contacts with the Montana Highway Patrol that I spoke with 2 years ago. One spoke with a retired Colonel whose father remembered the car. He said it was not marked and only tested for a short period of time out of their Great Falls District. He expressed that it was there then just went away. The other was a dispatcher in the early '80's and remembered the car. He also said it was used out of the Great Falls District and possibly still has the names of the Trooper that potentially drove it. I forwarded the picture to both of them, in hopes they may recognize the individual in the picture or the "MHP 345" plate may help.

ImEvil1 04-08-2016 10:35 PM

Great pic!! Thanks for sharing it.

28HopUp 05-03-2016 10:16 AM

So who are y'all gonna vote for this year?

Just kidding - we don't need to talk politics (or religion) here. There's plenty of drama on FB as is. Personally, I find it nice to visit a site (like this one) that avoids the heated debates that gets everyone upset and fails to change the minds of anyone.

So who has an update on their SSP(s) that they wanna share? I got my vanity plate in from DMV for my Pierce County car. Sorry, but no picture yet. I resurrected the same tag that I had on my 85 CHP car - NPRSUIT. I do have a plastic license plate frame printed with "NOT IN SERVICE" that I will use with it (I may have to cut it down to reveal the state ID and inspection sticker).

What about the rest of you?

I've been side tracked on another project lately. LOL No real progress on my SSP's but I will be back on 0196 soon... My first car was a 67 coupe, so when I stumbled onto this 95% rust free coupe roller I had to have it. I'll not be recreating my first but more doing it the way I like now... (that was 32 years ago) ...

28HopUp 05-03-2016 06:13 PM

Very cool, Bobby! I had a '67 S-code (390cid) convertible some time ago. We lost a ton of money when we sold it (after a full restoration). Good luck with your project. :)

Thanks Bill,
Your question motivated me to get back on GSP 0196... After months of stall, I finally got the engine bay stripped cleaned prepped and painted today...
