First GSP cars?

What year were georgia's first ssp cars. I know a guy who has had a 4 eyed car sitting behind his shop for a while now and was told it's a old gsp car. I've never seen a 4 eyed Ga car so didn't think much about it. But if they were built I'll go check it out, if not I'll ignore it like I've been doing. It's really a rough car from what I recall of it.Thanks and glad I stumbled onto this site !!!

1983 was the first year. Even it's a later four-eye it's worth restoring too.
Use this info to verify it. http://www.specialservicemustang.net/DSO.html http://www.specialservicemustang.net/Doortags.html http://www.specialservicemustang.net/Bucktags.html But sometimes you get a car were the buck tags were removed and door was replaced. I bought a '85 FHP like that. But it still had the 140 speedo and floor plan reinforcement along with a few other things, so sometimes you have to look for other clues.

There is a pic of an '83 GSP car in the Articles/Gallery section (the one Brian posted), and that's one of the only 4-eyed GSP cars I've ever seen a picture of (the other was also an '83). Someone recently posted that GA ran them in '85-'86, but I've never seen one.

Please keep us posted on what you find out.

chp1982 05-01-2013 10:37 PM

Curious how you found the supposed 10 VIN's.

kapracing 05-01-2013 11:02 PM

Finally I've been questioning Bill about those particular 10 for a while now but never ran reports on them! I've been suspecting them since this project first got started! :-) that makes me VERY HAPPY!!! Thanks for running those reports Mick!

I was looking through the In-Service Pics and saw mention that Georgia had 10 in 1983. Went to the 1983 page in the VIN Project and looked for groups of 10 or more and found one that was exactly 10. Checked those 10 at the GA site and some came back with records. Ran AC reports and all 10 originally went to GA (manufactured and shipped to dealer) and those that had any additional records stayed in GA.

kapracing 05-02-2013 07:14 AM

Yea I had a very strong feeling that was them. Didn't have the resources to check them out though. Was givin access to vin check for my personal car's a while but didn't want to abuse it by running ones that were not mine...thanks also for that Bill and Mick... Now for the Marti Reports for first and last ones to discover DSO #'s!!!! Lol

Very cool, Bobby!

Do you know if the rocker moldings are still on the car, and if they are black (GL) or 'bright' (GLX)?

Thanks,

So from what I've been told (by several Gsp officers) and evidence in VIN PROJECT I believe GSP only ordered cars in 83; 88; 89; 90; 91; & 92... Does any body have any evidence otherwise ?

ChrisL 05-04-2013 10:31 PM

Wow, can't wait to see some pictures of this one!

kapracing 05-04-2013 10:40 PM

If (IF) all in known blocks with GSP's are GSP's and if (IF) there are no others not known to us, then it would break down like this:

1983 10 DSO 21-0178
1988 100. DSO 21- 0216
1989 44 / 27 DSO 21-0202 & 17 DSO 21-0235
1990 81 / 57. DSO 21-0092 & 24. DSO 21-0133
1991 91 DSO 21-0259
1992 19. DSO 21-0909

If (IF) that's all that'd be a total of 345 if my maths right. That's pretty close to what I've read speculated #'s being. Gonna try to run some marti reports on first and last of those blocks to see if it all adds up as time and money ( mostly money) allows... :-)

FoxChassis 05-04-2013 10:56 PM

This sums up all of the VINs that I have checked for records on the GA DOR page: http://foxchassis.com/files/ssp/GAInsuranceCheck.xlsx

I was wondering about that. I know you have always preferred the aero SSPs. HUGE congrats, and GL with the pending purchase. :)

NoDrama43 05-05-2013 10:17 AM

just teasing......I am not allowed to buy any more cars if I have one that year. Brides orders.....

Hopefully the car is salvageable.

Yea I believe it will be. It's still wearing it factory paint and complete minus engine.
I was told previous owner spray painted interior RED! What were they thinking?

I know I'm paying way more than its really worth, but due to its rarity and the fact I JUST WANT IT I figure it'll be worth it... Lol

MOstang 05-05-2013 02:46 PM

The only thing that matters is that it is worth it to you! Such a rare car!
