Early Bucktags

1 Attachment(s)
Predator (Brian) sent me a link a few weeks ago to a set of bucktags that consisted of the normal tag (regular size) and a DSO tag that was really small (pic on 4-eyed pride). We talked about it, and I thought that it looked like it had been broken off at some point. Brian felt that it looked like the corners were rounded, and that it hadn't been altered.

Another guy on 4EP sent me a set of tags today that were pulled off of a wrecked car in a junkyard. Brian was right.....the DSO tag I took the pic below of is rounded, and looks original. Anyone ever seen this? The tags decode to an '85 Oregon State Patrol car, BTW.

Also...if anyone here has, or knows someone who has, a non-special paint car with only one bucktag, please post up. My '83 CSP car only has one, Jim's '84 OSP car only has 1, and there are several '84s out there the same way, too.

both of my 84 cars only have one tag. neither are special paint cars. one is white OSP the other dark blue unmarked WSP.

it does not appear that there was a second buc tag attached anywhere on either car.

the 83 FHP has two, but it is a special paint car.

Sorry didn"t mean to shout with last pic... The 85 OSP I own has 2 tags and they are both same size with square corners attached with the same screw (first picture). There is an 85 OSP car in a wrecking yard 40 miles south of me that had the bigger square tag mounted to the rh side of the drivers nose support bracket and a smaller rounded corner Oregon Special Service tag mounted to the left of the bracket ( second picture) Found the build sheets for both my cars, only bad thing is the 85 car has it's stick to floor behind drivers seat but 85% readable.

What is the DSO # for your '85 OSP?

Here's a picture of the tags from my 85, cleaned them and put them back in place. Production date was 6/85 for mine DSO# 74-0637 and the one in the wrecking yard was 5/85 and it's DSO# 74-0184

I'm wondering if it's just that particular DSO group (74-0184) that has that tag. Mike will probably definitely want to use that pic of yours as a comparison. When he updates the buck tag info on the site. Very interesting stuff.

Great pics...thanks for posting them up.

Are you 100% sure that both cars were OSP? I guess they could have had more than one order for the year, but those numbers are pretty far off.

100%- build sheet for 84... vins match and door tag does also

predator20 04-07-2008 09:35 PM

Reinforced seatback on the '84 . Didn't know they did them that early or just haven't paid attention to any of the earlier buildsheets.

On my 85 car the build sheet is stuck to floor but can still read most of it. First line matches buck tag DSO, can make out Oregon after that on the curved part of floor- had a better angle but cann't find picture at the moment. 3rd line you can read Special Service Pkg. What is readable of the Vin also matches tags and door.

I'm sorry....I should have more specific. I was referring to the '85s. :)

Great pic of your build sheet! Is it ok to use this on the site?

All this paperwork was in the trunk of 84 when I bought it too, very happy to see all the paperwork still with car after all these years. The guy I bought it from said he got it from the dealer that bought it at auction. Near as I can tell it was out of service by Aug. 87 with less then 88k on it(has124k now) A Shell station from his home town done an LOF and wrote it in the owners manual. If you are interested in better pictures of paperwork Mike or anyone, send me a PM and see what I got, hate to hog up forum space.

The wrecked 85 Was the yard owners aunt's that she bought from her boyfriend ( a Sheriff Deputy) who bought it from Oregon auction. That one going by the buck tag saying Oregon and vin's matched and also has same ant. mount holes and the hole above rr 1/4 window for light wiring.

Good info, Mark...thanks for posting it up.

So, if I am reading this correctly, and I might not be because I'm tired, we've got pics of '85 tags posted, from non-special paint cars, with both the regular and smaller size DSO tags. :2thumbs:

84oregonssp 04-08-2008 12:24 AM

You got it Mike- and feel free to post my build sheet and let me know if you want other info
