New guy in N. Texas area
Hello everyone. I purchased an '89 TX DPS car last week. I'm not for sure if the car is known on here or not. I can see the DSO tag under the driver side headlight, but I will need to remove the headlight to read it fully. All the tags on the door jamb were painted over when the car was resprayed black and white at some point. There are traces of blue over spray in the engine bay and on the door panel edges which I assume is the color it was painted by DPS when it was retired from service. The car has blue interior, dual spots, driver side trunk release, the code 3 wig wag module is still in place behind the driver side headlight with a white switch operating it on the dash gauge bezel. The certified calibrated speedo is still in place. There is an antenna mounted on the top of the passenger rear quarter, but I have been told its not the right antenna. The full size spare is in the trunk with a firestone firehawk tire on it DOT dated 114 (November 1994), it is however missing the cardboard cover and the hold down. There are 4 holes in the trunk floor on the passenger side and 4 holes in the decklid for what I was told the shotgun rack. As soon as I can get my pictures scaled down to upload I will.

What are the last 6 0f the VIN ? You might be able to see the Unit Number above the Dor Striker. M9-???.
Tom |
The last 6 numbers in the VIN are 200882 and the other tag says M9166. Hope that helps. Thanks!

First off - welcome to the forum!
If possible please post up some pictures of your car, including the door VIN label, TxDPS sticker, Buck Tags on the radiator support, and any other SSP-specific documentation. We will add it to our VIN project. There is one other 1989 TxDPS Mustang with a VIN close to yours - http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info200866.htm |
Sweet. Sounds like what I've been looking for (for several years now).
Congrats and Welcome. |
Those are good numbers. I was trying to figure out when it was sold from the state. I am thinking sometime late 92 as I did not go to that Auction. Go to the Tx Dot Web site as soon as you have title and request a Title History.

Not too far from you. Im in Roanoke.
Welcome to the site! Ted |
Welcome Justin....I have pictures of your car if you dont get any posted LMK. Super find and a great car to restore. Sure like the sound of more SSPs coming to North Texas.

If anyone knows the whereabouts of another passenger side arm rest and a center console armrest; let me know! As soon as I can I will post pics of the DOS tag as I am curious myself. I have been sick all week and I have been trying not to strain too much. Hopefully this weekend I can tear into it. Thanks!

I went into our VIN Project, and saw that your car (200882) is in a consecutive unit number batch of 22 cars, and 200866 (whose DSO is 52-0086) is shown documented here:
http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info200866.htm Pretty cool! Thanks for posting the pictures. :) |
Thanks
Thanks, If I ever get to a point where I want to sell you will be the first to know. :) Tell me more about your 1st gen lightning. My buddy had a really clean 93 about 6 years back. His was red and if would fade to a nice shade of pink after a couple months, LOL! Great truck though. I was mad when he got rid of it. It was a keeper with less than 60K miles on it. He regrets letting it go now.

Didn't have them in when I took these pics though. SSPs rock, but so do Gen 1 Lightnings. |
What color is your lightning? There's a pretty ratty one driving around my hometown with a paxton and faded paint. The guy that drives it bought it new and he smokes like a freight train in it. Poor poor truck. There used to be another guy in town that had one with a step side bed, fully documented from SVT. I called him out on the bed and he showed me the paperwork. I think he still has the truck, but its two toned black and red with some 20" wheels... ew. :/ what are people thinking!
|
Very nice! I love the white ones. Good looking truck! Better hang onto it! :)
|
The SSP looks great...welcome aboard.

Hey chism. Welcome to the site. I have an 89 Nevada car. After looking at your pics I find it amazingly similar. Blue interior, no power windows, and cruise control. I've looked at other jurisdictions and there is always a few items off. Either they have power windows or no cruise, etc. My vin is 22????.... sorry I'm at work and don't remember the rest. Anyways welcome. This is a great site with lots of good info.
|
thanks
Thanks! Ya, I'm pretty new to all this too. I have always been familiar with the cars and I've owned a handful of 87-93 cars. There probably are alot of similarities between our cars. I was lucky to find a car intact and pretty much untouched/unmodded for a good price. I couldnt resist having it! LOL

Latest update on my old 89 SSP
In a recent attempt to sell the seats out of my old 89 Mustang I came into contact with its newest owner! The car as a brand new paint job and is looking sharp as you can see in the picture I have attached. The new owner is no stranger to fox mustangs and says this is his first SSP. So, it has a good home and I will try to get him to come check out the site if he hasn't done so already. Just thought everyone would like an update. I sure miss that car and coming to this site more often. Hopefully, I will get another SSP one day once the kiddos get a little bigger.
Also, The wife and I just had our 2nd child (her 5th) about a month ago. Everyone is happy and healthy. Hope y'all are all doing well also. :) Regards, Chism http://i.imgur.com/9yCteYE.jpg Album of car: http://imgur.com/a/jdiv5 |
