CHP Rear Deck Lights
I need to find a bracket or a picture of the bracket that holds the rear lights on my 91. It was equipped with the arrowstick/flashers.....Also a photo of the center mounted front light. Thanks....

My 92 CHP was originally equipped with a cneter mount red mirror light. Some units had the mirror in the original spot and mounted the light just to the right of the mirror. Check under your headliner to see where the holes were drilled. I am going to the warehouse later on this week and can get some pics for you then. Jim |
You just reminded me....I need to include a section on that in the CHP doc. I have a pic of one of the stand alone lights in an in-service car in there, and I actually have one of the rearview lights out in storage (buried). Can you forward me a pic of yours also?

The light I have has the spring on it. However, the mounting bracket doesnt line up with the holes. I spoke with the guy at Coplites or something like that. He told me, he had supplied the CHP with the brackets and lights for a period. He said the ones he supplied actually had the rearview mounted to it. Does anyone have one like that??? And on the rear deck lights, I thought I saw in a photo that the lights were not directly on top of each other, but staggered slightly. Meaning the red/blues were above and behind the arrowstick. It looked like maybe the bracket was shaped like steps. I dunno though, just asking??

I think I may have the same light that you do....versus the other version that Jim and Eric have. Same deal with me...I'll get over to storage and dig it out in the next few days. I'd like to post pics of both on the CHP resto area. I believe that Jim's brackets for the rear deck lights came directly from CHP (not sure about the spacing issue you mentioned). |

The attached photos are blown up and cropped so the detail isn't that great, but does seem to show the stepped bracket. I've also got a pic of a Caprice with a step mount and the red/blues on top of the arrow. |

There is a picture on the other site (Tour of CHP Section) that shows those lights stacked up ready to go. I remember the blue/reds being behind the arrowstick ( like a step). Did they have different brackets for different cars?? I thought they just flipped the lights over, CV's and Caprices have the arrowstick on the bottom and the red/blues on top. Not sure why they were mounted different on Mustangs

Not that I know of. I do know that the brackets on Jim's car came from his contact at CHP, and the bracket mounted perfectly in the same holes that were already drilled in his car. Here is a pic of the lights mounted the other way. |

how come? to my opinion, they are nice looking cars and so sleeky.. but the drivetrain... they gotta drop 5.4's in it!

my first new takehome was GPD 2087, a 1996. Tan interior, all new equipment, even the cage. The thing about the 96 and 97s was when you were WOT and the tranny shifted, the car JUMPED forward into the next gear. It was a beast, especially compared to the 160 horse 5.0 1991 CV I had before. Don't get me wrong, I loved the 91 also, but the 96 was far more potent. Even the 97 P71 I have as a driver shifts the same. My 05 P71 is strong and fast, but not the same.

hmm... sounds real sweet.. i once test drove a X-CHP 96 P71 in 2003.. it was slow like a SNAIL! That was with in-pursuit in concord, ca.. so i chose to keep the old white '94 LT1 9C1 until dec 2004 and retire it to a local part time police officer in lakeland whom i do still keep in touch with which is being restored slowly so i have this fine LT1 9C1 now.. its hard to find a nice shape 95-97 P71's nowdays being 2006... 10+ years old cars.. if its now 2000.. they would be in better shape and easier to find.. oh well..
