1986 FHP Pics

FlyinTiger requested these, as they were deleted on .org. Pretty neat shots of 2 in-service 1986 FHP cars, from the Miami Vice television show.

Another one...

Someone asked me about this one (pic is from a book...can't remember which one). It's definitely not the usual FHP setup (see above), but shows that they tried a pushbar on at least one car (and some kind of blue flashers). Never say never in this hobby. :)

mustangretriever 03-03-2007 02:19 PM

This came from the book "Mustang Chronicle" by Jerry Easley. The same book also had an interior shot of an equipped SSP.

ImEvil1 03-03-2007 02:31 PM

Thanks, Eric. I never saw the interior shot. Do you remember what year it was from?

FlyinTiger 03-03-2007 03:08 PM

Thanks for posting those, Mike. I hope others that may not have seen them enjoy them as well. I have to figure out that pushbar setup. I'd like to use that on the 85. I will have to find that book on Amazon. Maybe the interior shot was from the same '86.

ImEvil1 03-03-2007 03:30 PM

No prob, Donny.

That pushbar setup may be a one-off, but who really knows?

FlyinTiger 03-03-2007 03:42 PM

Thanks for the book title, Eric. I just picked a new one up off Amazon for $10.

I scanned the interior pic from the book:

Eric,

Awesome....thanks! Single-tier Micor, JSS controller, and nice VASCAR unit between the seats.

FlyinTiger 03-03-2007 05:43 PM

What is the loop under the headlight switch?

mustangretriever 03-03-2007 06:34 PM

Maybe they slipped their PR-24's in there when driving...or maybe slid a non-rechargeable mag light in there...?

predator20 03-30-2007 08:26 PM

I' am curious to how long is the footage of the 86 FHP'S. I have been considering buying the box sets. I always like the show growing up and the FHP footage would be a plus.

ImEvil1 03-30-2007 08:49 PM

If I had to guess, probably 30 secs or so. "Tubbs" busts through a toll-booth without paying, and passes the first Trooper who was waiting on the shoulder. The second car joins in, and it's a quick pursuit.

ImEvil1 03-30-2007 10:20 PM

I posted the video (no sound) here:

http://www.specialservicemustang.net/videos/86FHP.html

Let me know if it works. The clip was actually just over a minute.:)

86NeSSP 03-30-2007 10:38 PM

The clip works just fine. Little grainy on my side but those cars are HOT!

predator20 03-31-2007 01:13 AM

That video is freaking sweet!! I 'am definitely buying me some Miami Vice. Thanks for posting it.

FHP813 03-31-2007 11:28 AM

Very cool! I'm going to have to get the dvds or at least get a Tivo to record them.:2thumbs:

No prob. ;)

The quality isn't the best, but it gives you a good idea of what's on the DVD.

FHP813 03-31-2007 07:54 PM

I like the Six Shooters also...

That's how we used to deal with toll runners back in the day:eek:

Sorry to bring back an old one...

I found some more '83-'86 FHP pics (in-service, and courtesy of FHP).

Donny,

This is the other '86 I found with the pushbar (solid and chrome on the sides).

jarhed123 07-24-2007 10:37 PM

I am still unsure if I want to put the pushbars on my resto. or not. I think it gives it a different look but putting holes on the bumper is a bit of a turn off. It looks like this one has either a MPH Radar or a "BEE" Radar in the car. It is great you were able to get one more picture for all of us that are in the process of restoring '85-'86 FHP SSPs.

predator20 07-24-2007 10:39 PM

Nice pic keep them coming. I'm definitely considering doing that push bar set up on mine.

I'm not putting them on the '85. These two (if they are actually two different cars) are the only ones I've ever seen with them (except for an aero car).

I have 10-12 more....just need to get them all scanned. These will go into the in-service photo section eventually.

FlyinTiger 07-25-2007 10:22 PM

Thanks for posting another angle. Looks like a different unit or the same before the lights. The lights definitely make the look. The pushbars look like bumper guards to me. Almost like the same that came on F150's of the same era. Only difference is the mounting brackets. It makes me curious if they are an adapted LTD bumper guard. Notice the slight angle outward at the top of the pushbar. They don't seem to fit quite right. I thought at first that maybe the unit pushed a car, but the tilt on both is too uniform.

FlyinTiger 07-25-2007 10:24 PM

Also, an in-service pic with no vent visors. No points off at the shows if I can't find them.

I had the same bumper guards on my '93 FHP Crown Vic before they started using the Setina bars. Nice pic.

Thanks for the lead. I'll try to find a pic or two. Now to find the lights.

Man, what happened to those cars? They just kind of faded away. I think they were cool.

Here you go. All three lined up nicely. :)

That's the only other '86 I've seen with the pushbar (the pic of the other one is in the Resto Doc, from a book).
