sunday evening 1721 hours guy drops his soft drink to the floor of his dodge pickup and bends down to root around and try to pick it up. runs right thru a red light at approx 30mph and does this to my work ride. No blood involved but I feel like I got trampled by a hundred steers. thankfully I had my seat belt on. 5 hours later I got released from the hospital.

another pic. this one is totaled, the at fault driver's truck is totaled, and the third car involved (2010 Chevy) has about 3k in damage.

ImEvil1 09-14-2009 10:14 PM

Think it'll buff out? :headscratch:

Glad you are ok, Jim.

FHP813 09-14-2009 11:01 PM

Glad you're OK Jim.

28HopUp 09-14-2009 11:06 PM

Ouch! Thanks for the reminder about seatbelts. Happy to hear that you weren't seriously hurt.

chp1982 09-14-2009 11:31 PM

NoDrama43 09-14-2009 11:43 PM

CNTLOSE 09-15-2009 03:02 AM

Wow, glad you are okay.

Charlie 09-15-2009 08:16 AM

He will be lucky if he can still get insurance after that.

copper 09-15-2009 09:28 AM

Thank God you are okey. It looks like a very nasty hit. I definetly don't think it can be buffed out.

SSPGARY 09-15-2009 09:38 AM

OUCH!!!!! Glad you're OK.

Gary

86NeSSP 09-15-2009 10:25 AM

Glad you're OK Jim... I hope all parties came out OK on that one. Well I guess you will be getting another NEW cruiser!

mustangretriever 09-15-2009 11:12 AM

Looks like the guy might have been aiming for the CALEA logo but missed. Too bad, I think CALEA has a regulation against striking police vehicles.

I requested that I be asssigned another ....BIG......HEAVY....expedition. My Captain told me yesterday they are buying me a 2010 Expedition to drive so that is a good thing. I also want a full cage and fire supression system.....

I feel worse today than yesterday but the Doctor said that is to be expected.

MOstang 09-15-2009 01:52 PM

Amazing nobody was hurt worse. Glad you came out of that one OK. A good thing you weren't driving in something small like an SSP.

we call the CALEA decals our "tombstones". I found out today that the "at fault" driver tried to say HE had the green light. I will have a copy of my cruiser cam video tomorrow that clearly shows the light green for me. When the crash happened I had the presence of mind to reach up and turn the video on. When the record button is pushed our cameras back up 90 seconds then start saving data . My Captain told me today it is excellent footage. Another souvenire I can add to the pile from the last 22 years.

ImEvil1 09-15-2009 06:39 PM

High speed=the presence of mind to hit the record button.

Winterpark SSP 09-15-2009 08:48 PM

WOW!

I am glad there were no serious injuries. I can't imagine what an SSP would look like after! I am glad you were in that vehicle.

I guess Integrity is a hard thing to find these days. Thankfully you have the footage.

Gearhead 09-15-2009 09:39 PM

Wow, that looks like a very hard hit, glad you are ok !! I didn't know you were with Miami Township. I know exactly where that picture was taken.

86NeSSP 09-16-2009 09:42 AM

When do we get to see the footage? Youtube!

SparkSVT 09-16-2009 02:53 PM

Jim

Im happy your basically OK. Thats a HARD hit. We too have cameras in our Patrol cars. We use the Kustom Signals Digital Eyewitness. They are set to go back 3 minutes from the time they are activated and automatically turn on at impact. I have to be honest I rarely wear a seatbelt while working as we are a very urban area and we are in and out of the cars alot. I may rethink that now. Again Im glad your not permanently injured.

got the cd today. I must have been out longer than I thought because once the camera comes on it is about 3 seconds till impact. Shows the green light clearly though so I am covered. I thought I had turned it on about ten seconds after the crash but it was more like 80 seconds since ours backs up 90 seconds upon activation. My command staff is already talking about having the cameras activate when an airbag fires.

I will try to figure out how to post it up tonight.

Chris

Chris,

This crash happened 300 feet from the PD driveway. I had just fueled up and talked to a 4 yr old kid about seat belts. His mom had asked me to talk to him since he unhooks his seatbelt and gets out of the seat while she is driving. When I left I said to him " see, even I wear my belt all the time". Less than 2 miles later I am crashed and on the way to the hospital. Had I not been wearing my belt I would have been in trouble.

stubes 09-16-2009 03:57 PM

glad to hear you are ok

Makes you wonder why at that moment in time, a mother came to you to talk to her son about seatbelt usage. Two miles later... Makes you think...

MRI on my knee this morning. Won't know the results for a couple days. Starting physical therapy for back, neck and shoulder on Monday. Have to do that for three weeks. I am on light duty at work now also. Hopefully things will feel better in a couple of weeks.

mac88chp 09-25-2009 03:04 PM

Hope you get better soon Jim. Thankfully you weren't riding the motor that day!
