Finally getting started on my newest GSP project! I'm really excited about this one... First, I gotta Square up frame rails (from old accident). I'm replacing both fender aprons and cowl vent on her. I'm also going to address the only rust issue, which is on door posts. Getting new seat upholstery and carpet for Christmas! You can still make out the unit # and Officer badge # on roof. Car #2217 badge # 606. A friend of mine is gonna try to find out the Officer's name that drove this car (maybe make contact if possible).

That will look really nice when you're done, Bobby! :)

Made a little progress in the last couple days. Got donor core support and cowl on. Just need to finish and clean it all up now. Next I'll be tackling the only rust issue ( the door post up above upper hinge).

Was a great day for unit #2217 . Not much done as far as bodywork goes but I now have it's history. Made contact with Sgt. Kevin Thompson badge #606. That number is still visible on roof. Sgt. Thompson is now the GSP Aviation Commander and remembers this car fondly. I was told some very interesting stories about his favorite Mustang ( he also drove an 88 prior to this 92). Hopefully he can find his old in service pics and provide me with copies :-) ... We can't wait for they're reunion.

MOstang 01-15-2013 11:14 AM

Congratulations...it's exciting to make contact with the Trooper who was assigned to SSP.

SparkSVT 01-15-2013 11:30 AM

So what were the stories?:)

28HopUp 01-15-2013 12:23 PM

Bobby, that is REALLY cool that you were able to talk with the Trooper assigned to your GA SSP! Can you explain how you were able to track him down?

Well, put it this way the car was involved in 3 accidents while in service... It was used the way it was intended :-) But I don't think I should post any of that with out His permission...

Bill,
I was just lucky that the car was never repainted. If it had been, I probably would never know who the Officer was. Georgia cars have the Officer's badge # on roof and for tag #'s. Tags are removed prior to auction and decals crudely scraped off. But with the decals being on (in my car's case) for 6+ years, it protects the paint and appears slightly raised compared to surrounding paint. In the right light you can make out 606 on it's roof. I had a friend do some checking and found out GSP badge 606 belongs to SGT. Kevin Thompson. I then just "BINGED" Kevin Thompson 606 and found a E-mail address. I received a call from him with in a hour from my e-mail and the rest is history. But with out that roof # it would have about been impossible...

Got a little done after work... Started trimming the rust away and decided it would be best to replace whole post rather than section it. Strange, this is the only rust it the whole uni body... Once I get door post replaced she'll be good as new. I'll be coating inside post's, cowl vent, full floor pan's and trunk with POR15.

Donor post.

stadair 01-18-2013 12:09 PM

So THAT's what that looks like all uncovered. I'm currently working on replacing door hinge pins and realignment of my doors. I thought the three bolts holding the hinges on the post were fixed. Now I see how much play there is. Thanks for sharing.

NoDrama43 01-18-2013 08:11 PM

wow......big project there....

kapracing 01-18-2013 09:09 PM

It's really not that bad. Whats killing me is I'm so covered up at work, I only get a few minutes here and there to work on it !!! But it all adds up ... :-) lol. I'm hoping to have it finished, paint and all by April.

Finally got post welded in... now the cap, seam seal everything really well and on to the other side...

kapracing 01-24-2013 07:59 PM

Then, I'll be coating inside of posts , cowl venrt and floor pans in POR 15 for future protection against any rust.

Both sides replaced and seamed sealed up :-)
Now the real fun begins...

kapracing 03-12-2013 12:02 PM

Well since the recent purchase of my 88 GSP I've decided to go ahead and remove all suspension and refinish floor pans as well. I got a rack built for the front now I only need to build one for the rear. The bar is adjustable so I'll be raising it a little higher to spray bottom of floors. I'm just going to take my time on it while I play with my 88.

IN SERVICE PIC OF 2217

I just received a e-mail from Sgt. Kevin Thompson of him and his son in the seat of 2217 not long after him being issued it...

PRETTY COOL :-)

nighthawk756 05-22-2013 05:26 PM

Wow, that's awesome!! You gotta love in service pics!! Congrats!!

MOstang 05-22-2013 07:20 PM

Thanks :-)

I couldn't be happier with this project. I considered trading the 1984 Georgia DOR SSP for a couple different cars but this is turning out to be the coolest SSP to me; not only a rare (1 of 19) GSP, but numbers still visible, a Sgt.'s car, and in service pics! Hope the 83 turns out to be this interesting :-) lol

nighthawk756 05-22-2013 10:18 PM

I'd love to have a GSP one day. And especially one that still has the auto so my wife could drive it some.

So let me know brother if you run across another one for sale! ;)

Seeing Aron's car got me motivated to get back on this one :-) Thanks Aron !!! :-) Cleaned up inside of floor pans and sealed them off with POR 15. The bottom of the GSP's were body color so I'll be pressure washing hull again in preparation to sand and spray underside soon. Will also be painting over POR 15on inside also...

nighthawk756 06-10-2013 04:07 PM

Lookin' good!! Can't wait to see her finished! ;)

Got my underside painted. Not sure how the others were done but this GSP had a healthy coat of ultra blue on bottom so I put it back same way. Only I POR 15'd and seam sealed everything I thought needed it, then put a healthy coat of ultra blue myself, LOL...
