The current owner decided to clone it.

I am surprised that it's up for sale. I agree with you, Mike, it was much better as a very rare, CSP car. Hopefully, someone will buy it and restore it.

While it did look nice in white I also think it looks very nice as is. I would not have done it but I would not pass it up if I had the funds. He did a great job with it IMO.

If it were one of the many, non-SSP coupes available out there for cloning, I'd agree (except the white needs to be grey, I think).

I wish I had usage numbers for CSP for '86. Personally, I only know of one other '86, and it's been heavily modded/raced. The only other one I knew of was crashed in '04 and totalled out.

If I didn't have an 86 then I would have liked to have it when it was a CSP car. I have the 86 Idaho car so I don't need another 86.

You know, I am not a big fan of the 1986's. If I was going to get a 4 eye, it would have to be a 1985 model w/ 5spd and 4bbl. Something about the last Mustang ever produced with a 4bbl does something for me. One day I will get one. I was chasing a 1985 Utah one here locally and left notes on the window to no avail though.

Oh well, nice looking clone if you want a clone.

Before I got my '88, I was sitting in the seat of a '86 I believe that I could have got for a steal at the time. There was just something about 225 HP that made me go with the '88 instead.

I saw an '86 FHP sell at auction in Bartow, FL in 1990. I kick myself for bidding on the '87s (unsuccessfully) and not going after that lone '86.

I am glad I got my '86 years and years later. Now look at it and it is not cloned. But this clone GSP car is a nice looking car eighter way.

I can help....I have been researching and putting together the equipment for my '83, which would be pretty much the same as this one.

No prob..I just realized...I didn't know the engine had been pulled and the whole compartment painted blue.

Dang, you're right. I guess I didnt notice the newer engine bay pic. I did look at the older one with the bay still white. And as David P pointed out to me, the door jambs are blue as well. I like the blue interior though, and those steel wheels kick @$$. That car is going to need a lot of work to return to white. What a shame. Oh well, if I can get it for a reasonable price, it will still be a good deal. Do you know if the decals are permanent or statics?

I think I have seen the 86 in service shots before, but I will take a look again.

I think the decals are permanent. M-Squad did them for him (copcar.com). Good luck getting it. Good to hear it has a chance to be restored.:thumbsup:

Hey Mike...or anyone else. Has anyone here ever run or seen a Carfax on this one. Has it ever been in any accidents? Does it have any rust issues, etc etc.? I am about to email the seller, but wanted to see if anyone here remembered anything about it from it's previous times being for sale. Looks like he really needs to sell it. The price keeps getting lower and lower. I would definitely return it to a Colorado car, so it wont be a cheap investment for me. :(

Sorry guys, I couldn't do it. I wanted to, but I couldnt make myself pull the trigger. I just didn't want to go through the stress of a complete repaint right now.

If I would have kept the UHP car and spent the money I used on this one for the UHP I would have about a third of a restored SSP and would still have to find the interior equipment plus those dam center caps! I hope I'm allowed to participate here, even though I'm not the SSP purist that many of you seem to be. Thanks for the read,

Bob,

my "barf" comment was not directed at you. I think the car should have been restored back to CO specs, not turned into something it isn't. Just my personal opinion.

I find it hard to understand why someone would want to do that to an original unmolested ssp. The guy could have done the same thing to a non ssp car and got the same result.

Coming to a show near you, A restored unmolested UHP SSP complete with center caps, radio, siren and plain white paint job. I agree with Jim, a non SSP car could have been used and gotten the same result. Anyway, you got a great deal on a very rare car.

Congrats on getting the car. I was watching it with a fast pulse at the end ready to bid. I just couldnt make myself do it. It wasn't the right car for me, but I'm glad it was for you. I have to agree with Nodrama though, it should have remained a CO car. If I wouldn't have been tasked with reversing all the recent work, it would have been much more attractive to me.

Anyway, Congrats on the fine buy.
