Replacement LX Exhaust Systems

What is the closest to stock that I can get to replace the aftermarket system that is on my car?? Is it Walker? Does anyone have the part numbers? I need cat back. Mine has a 2 1/2 inch aftermarket whatever on it and the fit is horrible. I know Walker has also has the new mufflers under the Dynomax label.. however I want to get her as close to stock as I can.

Thanks..

dynomax or walker.

2 1/4 tailpipes are correct and available with stainless tips.

weld the tailpipe to the muffler like OEM

not 2 1/2 inch stuff, and no exhaust clamps to be as close to original as possible.

If you have the original ground straps, attach them to the muffler like when it was new.

ajstoys63 09-21-2011 07:16 PM

I am not sure if the ground straps are even there anymore. the guy who owned it befor me changed the entire exhaust system. I had the walker "H" pipe put back on the car. He had an "X" pipe put on it and the exhaust note inside the car was terrible at 55-65 m.p.h. I had Meineke put new mufflers on it that helped that but the tail pipes look really bad on the car. Neither one is level and the are so close to the bumper cover. So I want to get them back to as close to original as possible. I also have to change the headers back as well... Uuhhgg

Can I get the ground straps??

Here's a thread from a few months ago...

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...hlight=Exhaust

ajstoys63 09-21-2011 07:33 PM

I checked the thread.... I don't care for Flowmaster's American Thunder... I have heard some good things about Walker/Dynomax and especially the new VT Mufflers. I wouldn't mind using them with the correct tailpipes. I am not racing this car just driving it... Just have to find good tailpipes..

MOstang 09-22-2011 04:46 PM

glad it helped...you may use the search mechanism on the forum on plug in exhaust. you may find some other threads with some additional input from others that have appeared in varoius thread that could be helpful too.

I just got the Dynomax myself. I'll make comment once I install it!

Is it stainless at the tips? Polishing the tips with progressively finer emery cloth will bring a shine to most metals. Do you have any photos of these tips? Might just need some elbow grease and should turn out fine.

1989 Tx DPS SSP 09-30-2011 08:17 AM

I LOVE my Dynomax VT Mufflers. I also have Dynomax 2.5 Stainless Tailpipes.
If you have any questions call Dynomax ,they can get you the right part #.

ssp91ssp 09-30-2011 01:35 PM

The dynomax stuff is NICE!! and just enough of a good mellow sound.
tailpipe wise you cant beat dynomax on looks and fit.

ajstoys63 09-30-2011 06:17 PM

Does the Dynomax system have the polished tail pipes?? And I heard the new VT mufflers were decent... How does it look on the car?? I want it to look good not aborted like the ones on my car. The darn tail pipes are almost hitting the bumper cover... One side is aiming up and the other inboard...

calimustang 09-30-2011 09:42 PM

mine's not polished, just plain metal pipes. I'm looking for polished style pipes. will take pics of it tomorrow.

Nevermind I thought you had dull stainless tips. Best bet is to go to Dynomax and get the tips they have on the pipes after the muffler.

93chipper 10-05-2011 11:58 PM

tips 150 at 50 resto brand new

calimustang 10-07-2011 11:15 AM

This has been one of the hardest things to find... OEM style original tailpipes. You would think with the popularity of these cars that they would still make them. I found the aluminized OEM style but no original polished stainless.. Oh well will most likely go with the 2.25 Dynomax...

ajstoys63 10-29-2011 10:34 PM

Well FMR may be able to get me as close to the original exhaust as I have been able to find.. Polished stainless steel tailpipes and all... About $560... Not really too bad. I will be replacing the intermediate, mufflers and tail pipes as well as all of the isolators... Should help look better then the 2.50 Pypes system that is currently on it... I am going to have it all welded like was suggested by you guys...

Thanks...

1988Bullitt 10-31-2011 03:35 PM

Dynomax / Walker on the AL car, plan for the same on my KHP car. I should have welded it too.

arron ?

Did the Walker mufflers have the exhaust pipe and flange attached ??

Can you give me the part numbers. I understand the original exhaust is 2 1/4is that what you ordered. I am just about ( next day or two) to order 2 mufflers and both tail pipes from Summit Racing. If you can give me the exact part numbers that would be great.. Hard to keep them all straight, so many listings.. Thanks Bard

ajstoys63 11-01-2011 06:52 PM

Yes the originals are 2.25 inch... The Walker part numbers are tail pipes - 45059/left and 45060/right.. Intermediate pipes - 42796 and 42835. mufflers 22349 and 22440. You can get the tailpipes non polished alluminized. I have to get new isolators/hangers also. I am going to have the system welded into place after I put it on. I was also told these mufflers come with the heat shields... We shall see about that. The car currently has a 2.50 inch PYPES system and it fit horribly on the car.. I didn't put it on the car it it was the previous owner who put it on..

By the way (Aron) the exhaust looks great on your car!

MOstang 11-01-2011 06:54 PM

Thanks for posting those part numbers up here.

badbrad 11-03-2011 04:40 PM

Still looking

I called Walker-DynoMax today they have no listings at all for the 2.25 stainless tailipes 45059 (L)or 45060(R). They say they do not sell the tailpipes indiviually, only as a Kit. I explained that some sites offer them, he said theymust have broken up a kit and be selling pieces?? I called S. R. and one other place they have stainless tailpipe 45060 ( Pass Side) in stock as do several other places list prices from 117.08 Canadian to high of 174.00 USD. They are all out of stock of the 45059 ( dr side) & have "No availbility". Dynomax offers a complete exhaust system.. cat back but not in 2.25 only 2.50 & 3.00. I ordered everything from SR( Walker ) : 2 mufflers (22349-LH & 22348-RH). Tailpipes 45903-LH & 45902-RH, 2 extension pipes 42796-LH & 42795-RH. Total including a few hangers etc was 339.24 for both sides-cat back. They are not the stainless tips.. Ill guess I will have to get my sandpaper & polishing kit out.

ajstoys63 11-09-2011 07:07 AM

Well I am truly going to be surprised if FMR comes through with these parts, as I have not heard of a shipping date yet. I wouldn't mind using the 2 1/2 inch kit if it fits and looks ok. I don't like the aftermarket one that is on the car now (Pypes). Its fit is terrible. If Walker made a 2 1/2 kit that had the polished stainless tail pipes and the fit was good I would have bought that. But I was told they could get this.. I am waiting to see... At least for a couple of days more..

Is there a kit number for the 2.50 Walker/Dynomax kit??

MOstang 11-09-2011 02:26 PM

I found 2 1/4 ones online and ordered late Spring. Forgot the brand but it was a commonly known and respected name. After 2 months and no ship date (or expectation of when it would ship) I cancelled my order only to find that they had charged my credit card some weeks earlier. So I sent them a terse letter with instructions to cancel my order and return my funds. Then went through my credit card company and disputed the charge.

ajstoys63 11-10-2011 09:29 AM

Well I spoke to them (FMR) on the phone and they assured me that they could get it. The only short fall was it wouldn't have the Ford logo on it and it may take a few days to get it. They told me that it has to get shipped to them to be inspected and then shipped to me... I didn't mind that. I just want to get the crappy exhaust off the car that is on it now.

Which company did you order yours from??

If it doesn't come through then I may buy the 2 1/2 system that was stated on this thread.. It looked pretty good on the one car. Badbrad is there a kit number for the 2 1/2 system from Walker/Dynomax?? Which mufflers are they using??

Thanks

ajstoys63 11-10-2011 06:08 PM

Ok... Wel that fell through. They can't get the passenger side tail pipe. I am going to have to find a decent system even if it is 2 1/2 inch... HELP!!

What about the Walker/Dynomax kit? Is it loud? Does it fit and look ok?? Does anyone have a kit number with polished stainless tailpipes??

Thanks

ajstoys63 11-10-2011 06:21 PM

1988Bullitt what system/kit are you using on your car?? I like the look and fit. Is it very loud?

Thanks...

ajstoys63 01-13-2012 01:57 PM

Well I finally received the Walker/Dynomax kit for the LX... I have to have it installed and welded up..

Rhino 01-13-2012 07:22 PM

Post up some pics once you get them installed. :)

ajstoys63 01-14-2012 06:33 PM

Will do... I tried to find stock but had no success with the one tailpipe and Walker told me this is the closest... But it is still the 2.5 in. We shall see. It has to be better then the PYPES stuff that is on her now.

calimustang 01-16-2012 10:31 AM

Hmm how did Pypes sound?

CNTLOSE 01-17-2012 10:21 AM

Had that same system on my '93 TX DPS SSP. I thought it look very nice, fit well, and a very close to stock sound. (If I remember right it is the Super Turbo mufflers.)
