Yes, Luckily the first owner kept almost all of the stock parts he had removed. As you can see when I picked it up it was a "race car" but it will be back to 100% stock when I am done.

FHP813 09-26-2008 03:50 PM

Cool, looks like a great project and very rare too.

ImEvil1 09-26-2008 04:45 PM

Nice, nice car, with some great documentation. Great to see it being restored, also.

jarhed123 09-26-2008 05:07 PM

Good to know it will be back to stock. Welcome, here you will refine what you already thought you knew.

one of the rarest out there ! excellent find and great to see it getting the resto it deserves. congratulations ...

Thanks guys! There is a heck of a story behind me getting this car, I had been working on it for 3 years. The only other one out there that I know of it at the Talladega Speedway museum, and I hated to see this car sit as a race car and rot under a tree.

Doin' it right! I'm sure this will be a beautiful restoration when complete. :2thumbs:

You said it was a race car....do you know how far back that was done? A buddy of mine who is still a state trooper drove one back then(I have a picture somewhere) and when it went up for auction he said C&L Performance bought it and turned it into a race car.....it's a 1 in 33 chance(since I know of 3 others that are not it) that it was his old car.

C&L did not buy this car, the previous owner's name is Keith, from Hunstville/Decatur area. He bought it from the state in 1995, he was the first and only owner of this car before me. The unit number is in my sig if he can trace it.

1988Bullitt 10-26-2008 09:34 PM

More cleaning today since it was warm and sunny, still need to take the doors off but other then that she's ready to be sanded.

OK, funny though that C&L is also in the Huntsville area as well.

I'll ask the guy, I know he ran his own shop before he started working at the Toyota Engine plant in Huntsville. (that's how I found out about the car, I work at the Truck plant in Princeton, IN and they supply our engines) We always swap stories when I am down there and I don't remember him ever saying he worked for C&L, and the carfax shows he was the only owner after the state, so if he did work for C&L the car was in his name not the companies. Like I said next time I talk to him I will ask.

1988Bullitt 10-28-2008 11:07 AM

Anyone have any idea what brand antenna this might be?

Oh, I'm not saying any different....just a coincidence that he was located near C&L and they got a car too. Lee Bender (C&L owner) is a friend of mine...I called him for some details and he knows Keith..... Keith drove his car home from the auction while Lee at C&L's car had to be towed home...parts were missing from the car Lee bought and they paid about $1200....while Keith paid around $3500-$4000 he thinks but of course it was running/driving.

They won a world championship in 1995 with it....and it was mini tubbed for the last season they raced it because the rules allowed it....later they sold the car to Junior Ivenez who turned it into a turbo car and ran 7.80's 185mph around 2001. He got tired of people seeing the car and saying "That's C&L's old car" so it was repainted in a red/white/blue scheme.

Last heard the current owner was installing the drivetrain from Racin Jason's old white car into the old C&L car....and it was in Pennsylvania but after that the trail goes cold.

You are flying through it so fast, you might just have it ready to drive down to Barber for a homecomig.

Got a lot of work done on the car this week, new door pins and bushings, resealed all hindges and body seams, re-hung the doors, worked on the hood and decklid, re-installed all the brakelines, and re-drilled the a-pillar for the spotlight. I will post some pictures later but wanted to thow a quick video up of the new jetsonic, I know the filters are incorrect but you get the idea.

Did some painting today, amazingly it was 70 degrees out! Bumper covers are done, still need to two-tone the bumper strips black. I picked up a new paint gun (DeVilbiss Plus) by far the best gun I have ever used they turned out perfect!
Kim caught me dancing I was so happy about my new gun :jester:
