Unit number ?

I have a 1992 Mich State Police LX Coupe (buck tags and all) which I have
had for about 5 years. Completely re-done with a Supercharged
DSS 331 w/AFR heads (and much more) (its listed on Craigslist). My
question is how would I obtain the "unit number" of my Mustang.

92ssp331Mustang 06-28-2009 04:12 PM

ok guys....

30 veiws and no replys ? Is it that stupid of a question ?
Its not life or death, I was just wondering.

1989 Tx DPS SSP 06-28-2009 04:37 PM

There are only a couple of people who own Michigan Cars here.

FHP813 06-28-2009 04:59 PM

Why do you need the unit number? Are you restoring the car back to in service?

MOstang 06-28-2009 05:17 PM

I don't think that by striking that type of tone is going to encourage much support from members here.

92ssp331Mustang 06-28-2009 08:33 PM

NO TONE, really !!!!

I WAS JUST JOKING. I WAS WORRIED THAT IT MAY REALLY BE A STUPID QUESTION. SOMEONE HAD ASKED IF I KNEW THE UNIT NUMBER, AND HAD REALLY NEVER GAVE IT ANY THOUGHT. MAYBE MICHIGAN MOTOR-POOL?
(IF THEY KEEP RECORDS THAT FAR BACK).....SORRY BOUT THE "TONE".
I WAS REALLY JUST TRYING TO BREAK THE ICE, so to speak. Oh, not
restoring it back to service. Its my daily driver.

92ssp331Mustang 06-28-2009 08:46 PM

Thank You !!!

Thanks for the info cntlose !!!!!! I take it this site is for bone-stock
X-SSP stangs...Sorry !

MOstang 06-28-2009 09:14 PM

I'm astonished by your level of sincerity considering using all caps is a sign of yelling in written communication.

We encourage originality and restoration, but I'll tell you that I saw the pics of your car, and it's definitely nice (looks like it was done right). We're all about preservation of the cars here, too, and yours definitely looks like it was well taken care of. The SSP identity is certainly missing, but at least the car isn't all hacked up and could be restored back to MI specs one day.

Are you selling it? You mentioned Craigslist, so that's why I'm asking.

I own an 89 MSP car. When I bought it there were documents in the glove box (speedometer certifications) that had the unit number on it. You might try calling MSP fleet headquarters with the vin. I doubt you will get anywhere with them but you never know. Bruce Howard might also be able to help you as he is the MSP guru. MSP designated the unit number depending on where the car was stationed thru out the state. The license plate used was the unit number also.

Thanks.....

I lost my job late last year I got really behind. Yes I'm working, but like
alot of other people, making just over 1/2 what I was making. I have an
extra vehicle. A 2001 Honda Accord EX and my Mustang. I DON'T want to
sell the Mustang (and my wife agrees), but with gas prices, I'm just trying
to be practial. I have a ton of time, sweat (and money) in my Mustang, along with alot of heart and soul. It's been stolen twice, had to completely re-do
everything the last time. They tried to torch it with papers in the fuel filler neck, soaked the inside with gas and oil, damaged the deck lid and hood and roof. Its my baby. And I know I'll hate life if I do sell it. If I may ask, how do
see the pictures? Just wondering. I baby this car. I have never "raced it"
on a track, no time-slips. No dyno runs. Just very fun to drive. It's my third fox-body. Oh well, Thanks for the nice comments bout the pictures.
To answer your question....yes I may NEED to sell my Mustang.

92ssp331Mustang 06-28-2009 10:07 PM

Thank You Jim....

p.s. NOT yelling !!!! sorry if I started out on the wrong foot.
Thanks for everyones help.

jarhed123 06-29-2009 08:30 AM

Do you have pictures? Post the pictures and a price if you are selling but IMO I would sell the rice burner first. You might think you are going to save tons on gas but really, how much by selling the stang? I have done the same in the past thinking it would help out and in the end it made no difference. I lost the car I loved and ended up spending about the same with the new car. My .02

92ssp331Mustang 06-29-2009 06:32 PM

thanks for the in-put !!! It would be very hard to let go !!! I have the vin
on hand. Last 6 is 138473 / dso is 48 0197
