Leaky Quarter Windows
My SSP has had to sit outside for the last few months, unfortunately. Now It's got a garage again. My question is about the quarter windows. I think that they leak water into the cabin. I have found water in both rear seat cubby holes after heavy rain. I was thinking that it was coming from the doors, but I have replaced those seals, so it was confusing me. Has anyone else had this problem? Do the quarter windows tend to leak with age?

Toshi,
I have never had a quarter window leak but I have had the rain come in around the door seals. Best thing to do would be get in the car and have someone with a water hose soak each side down with you sitting inside so you can see where it is coming from. Jim |
X2 on the door seals.

My 82 sat in the driveway while I was stripping it, and I spent a rainy afternoon sitting in the car dismantling the dash, after I had the rear trim removed. I can say, without a doubt, that water flowed in through my quarter glass. I watched it. It seemed odd, the glass was still solidly mounted but the sealant must have contracted enough to to let the water in.

My 86 had a hole under the drivers side quarter windows from a leak also. I have never seen the 87-93 qtrs leak though.

Thought that I got away from leaky door seals when I sold the convertible.

You may have to bend the door a little to increase the contact area. Fox body Mustangs are not known for their good door fit. Just open the door and use your knee on the inside rear portion of the door to brace it as you "gently" tug on the upper portion of the door. Just give a little tug and then check the door fit. You may have to do this several times to get the right fit. Since the door half of the hinge is welded on there is no way to adjust the door inward other than minor bending. Just be careful. Doug

The seals around the windows the 90 degree seals, shrink and crack from the sun over time.

Just a side note when trying to find a water leak. At a dealership I worked for we would set a hose on the car and let it run, well it didn't always work. We fabbed up a shower head to simulate a rain shower to give it a more real world approach to finding leaks.

While judging Mustangs at our Mustang Memories car show this past Sunday, I found a Fox Mustang that had perfect door seals. They did not kink like mine at the top, rear, 90 degree bend. I'm very dissappointed about these brand new door seals I bought from Latemodel Restoration Supply. It's the kink that's causing all the problem.

I try to buy most of my replacement parts from my local Ford dealership. Many parts are still available and the quality is never a concern.
