1987 Texas Highway Patrol Mustang

Up for sale is my 87 DPS Mustang, M7-331. Purchased at auction in June 1990 and returned to service trim. This is a blue chip example with all records and extras ( parts, tires) obtained over the years included. This car is not a daily driver and never has been. If you want one of the originals that has not been through a million owners, here you go. Entertaining offers. Trailer could be part of the deal.

This shows some of the documentation. Window sticker, Trooper that drove the car, warranty card etc.

Sorry to hear about your sale Joe but best of luck with it and I hope this doesn't mean the end of the line for you with the SSP hobby.

Double ditto on that Joe. I sent you a PM.

policemustang 01-20-2010 11:36 PM

Yeah, Joe. Don't let this be the end of the SSP hobby rope for ya. Stay involved as an advisor (like me) in case someone needs you for something in the future. I am always still on the hunt for the perfect SSP Mustang and if I ever find it, I will drop everything to get it!
Anyway, hang in there. And don't sacrifice - if it's not the right price, don't let her go until you are confident in the buyers intentions and the prices.

Good luck, mi amigo!

PS: You going to sell your trailer, too?

mustangretriever 01-21-2010 12:17 PM

You said you are entertaining offers, do you have a general price in mind? Both with and without the trailer? You can PM me if you want.

88stang 01-22-2010 12:35 AM

Nice car! You posted it for sale with no price. What is UASSPP???

NoDrama43 01-22-2010 11:23 AM

United Association of Special Service Purists.

Texaspony87 01-22-2010 12:27 PM

Extras include: 1987 Ford shop manuals, DPS service records, set of 4 lightly used gatorbacks, spare spotlight, spare DB 702 antenna, 1/18 scale GMP Texas prototype Mustang from my involvement on that project, etc. As said before, this car is one of the first and I am not new to this hobby. This is a car you have waited your whole SSP Mustang life for.

88stang 01-22-2010 02:59 PM

What's your asking price or what are you looking to get for the car????

copshop 01-23-2010 02:11 PM

I too will hope that Joe stays in the hobby. Having those folks out there who appreciate and care for a car because of what it is, not because they want to make it something else, are few. Joe has owned this car for several years, and helped my tremendously when I purchased my SSP to restore. I have alot of respect for how Joe takes care of his vehicles. This is likely the most original out of service Texas car ever. It is a true collector car, having been purchased by a collector, and then later sold to Joe. I have had the honor to be present when this car is being shown, and it always draws a crowd. Texas purchased many of these cars, and onlookers usually relate to it more so than my Michigan car. I could go on about this car, but won't. Simply put: Very nice car, great documentation from trooper who drove it, great guy selling it.

copper 01-25-2010 12:54 AM

Let me amen++ that Bruce.

YellowMurci 01-25-2010 01:20 AM

Is it some kind of mystery what the asking price is? I see alot of people asking with no reply?

Texaspony87 01-25-2010 01:12 PM

18K..... or more if you would like :) Great deal considering.

Texaspony87 01-25-2010 01:26 PM

This level vehicle separates the true collector from the redone car owner. If you want a piece of history, here it is. Cars like this are not offered everyday. No mystery here. Just not a give away item.

28HopUp 01-25-2010 04:33 PM

IMO, $18K isn't crazy money for your car, even with the economy the way it's been for a while. Since you hadn't listed a price, I thought you might be after a rediculous amount for the car. But that seems reasonable to my way of thinking. Good luck with the sale, and I hope it finds a deserving new owner.

mac88chp 01-26-2010 02:25 PM

Joe, I've never seen your car in person but from the photos and what I hear from those who have, I believe it's worth every penny of your asking. Good luck!

Texaspony87 01-27-2010 12:36 AM

Thanks Michael. I think so too. I have another car I would like to get so that is my motivation. This is really a great car and if I don't sell it, it won't spoil my day. As they say, I have roots in the Texas car.

EvocBruce 02-04-2010 09:31 PM

So Joe,

Anyone showing interest in this Beautiful "87??

1988Bullitt 02-05-2010 03:07 PM

Another +1 for this car, and Joe. Joe was the first SSP enthusiast I met in person after picking up my first 89 TX SSP when I lived in Michigan. The information and help he provided me was invaluable. Without all of his knowledge and his perfect example of a TX SSP there is no way I would have been able to correctly restore my 89 (it still was not as nice as his) The amount of documentation he has on this car is amazing.

As for Joe himself he has been a major influence on me and this hobby and is truly someone I respect. I hate to see the car change hands but I am sure it will stay in the family.

Just another photo,

One of my favorites, Joe's on the right

Great photo Aaron...thanks for posting.

Texaspony87 02-06-2010 11:58 PM

Thank you Aaron. I appreciate your kind words. I am glad you are with us in the hobby! Bruce, some have shown interest but I still have it. :)

Texaspony87 02-09-2010 01:03 AM

Car still wears last set of new gatorbacks it left the DPS with plus 5 NOS gatorbacks acquired over the years as part of the package.

NoDrama43 02-09-2010 12:15 PM

showoff.... ;)

policemustang 02-09-2010 10:28 PM

Sure brings back good memories for ME!

Joe....I play the lottery about twice a week. Can you hold off selling until I win? ;)

Texaspony87 02-20-2010 07:00 PM

Over 1100 people have looked at this post, no takers yet.

88stang 02-21-2010 05:28 PM

Great car at a great price, given everything that is with the car. Good luck with your sale Joe.

Texaspony87 02-23-2010 11:33 AM

I am willing to negotiate my young friend. What is your offer?

Texaspony87 03-10-2010 01:49 AM

Thinking about a price reduction. What do you think it should be?

Unmrkd 03-10-2010 08:32 AM

Joe, the price should be what is fair for you and what you are comfortable with. This car is unique and definitely not eligable for low ball territory! As has been stated - the economy and lack of job security is probably playing a factor with no firm offers so far. Someone will find a way and when they do they will be getting an outstanding SSP. Hang in there and good luck.

ssp91ssp 03-10-2010 09:26 AM

I agree with Gregg! Hang in there Joe .

I wish your car listed before i purchased my 2 ssp's !:headscratch:
that sucker would be sitting in my stable back here in TX right now .

Joe , you made a trade comment on another posting ?????
if this is correct , what's on your mind ?? i had to ask .;)

I don't think it's unreasonable at all. I've not seen any thus far that have been restored as correctly and as detailed as that one.

Keep the price higher, you'll find the right person easier that way. I'd hate to see someone get it because it's a "clean coupe"... know what I mean?
