show me your sign
Does anyone here have a complete and ready for show ...car show display sign that
was professionally made on a plastic board or other material? something that would stand up in front of or near the car.... something you could post a picture of here? something similar this but about the SSP Cars or your SSP? http://www.metalimagecreations.com/SHOWCAR2.jpg when the CHP/SSP Is complete and ready for the show's I think it is gonna need some explaining and i don't want to sound like a broken record. as a matter of fact I hate to stand around any of my cars at a car show. http://www.topthat.net/webrock/images/sound.jpg let's see your info board/reader board or what ever it's called I need Ideas? |

I usually put it on an easel but if its windy I put it in the engine compartment and hold it with the hood.

Nice sign, Bernie. I think you need to add another line at the bottom, though.

I had a DVD made for my last show. It's a 5 minute DVD with pictures and information about my car that cycles. The DVD runs continuously and starts over by itself. I bought a nice flat panel TV and hooked up a DVD player to it and ran it at the indoor show I did last month in Tyler, Texas at the Harvey Convention Center.
** I must say that I was surprised that no one seemed to pay any more attention to it than what I've seen with a regular sign. ** There were a few folks that watched the entire video thru and some even came back and watched it again. But for the most part, folks didn't seem as intrigued about it as I thought they would be. I thought it was a cool idea, though. |

that you have put allot of time and effort into! one thing i have noticed is that people read the big print on these signs and not much more. |
Here's the one I made a couple of years ago and am still using (but need to update too!):
http://images21.fotki.com/v631/photo...howsign-vi.jpg It's actually a small card (7" x 7") that I prop up inside the lower right windshield. I prefer to use something like this because I think bigger signs detract from a display, esp. if they prevent getting a full view of the car, they can be hazardous if they get loose and, as it was pointed out, very few people bother to read much of what's on them, if at all anyway. But it's still nice to give some basic information as to what exactly it is that you're showing for the truly interested folks. |
...and the sign said, long haired, creepy people...do not apply!!!
I (we) like to mention on signs here in Texas that our Mustangs and the display of the vehicle meets all laws and statutes of the Texas Penal Code and Texas Government Code and the authorization to restore the Mustang was authorized by the Director of the Texas DPS.
This cuts down on lots of smart-ass comments and unnecessary questions about the car. Of course, there is still the big dummy that is too lazy to read the sign and goes right to asking the questions. I had a guy walk by my car one time and give me a go-to-hell look and said: "I see what MY tax dollars are going to!!!" And yet, not a penny of his tax money went into my car!!! All because he didn't read the sign. |
When we get back to Boise the car will have all the marking's on and be ready for
the show season..... you make a good point Roman in that private (not public) money spent on this project But...people First have to read the sign! My car will be a California car in Idaho so I am almost sure that people will read what ever is on the board/display just because of the (what the Hell) is this about factor? This is probably one of the most fun automotive projects i have done in a while! and I agree with you as you have said in the past.....these cars look great even not restored! I like Michael's Sign it's simple. |
Display sign
I had sign made for my FHP they aren't cheap but worth it they come with stand that slips in back. I can't find pictures but have web site i'm going to get one made for my CHP when it's done. http://www.mv.com/ipusers/motion/

This is my sign.

I like your sign Roman, esp. the last paragraph. I bet that answers a lot of questions before they get asked! I'm going to incorporate something like that on my updated sign for this show season.
|
Roman...i also like your sign....I am in Idaho with a CA. car so no one is gonna get sideways about the car being here in Idaho......that's what I think?
but we will see:rolleyes: the first show E.V.E.R WILL BE IN TWO WEEKS! this is what my thingy will say! 1985 SSP Mustang Former California Highway Patrol Car restored....... as driven (in service) Special Service Mustangs, also referred to as SSPs were made from 1982-1993. The California Highway Patrol started things off in 1982 by requesting a porpoise built Mustang for testing and evaluation as a Highway Patrol Pursuit car that was durable, reliable oh and fast enough to catch the speeders The California Highway Patrol started using these Mustangs in 82 and continued through to 1993 when Ford Stopped producing the SSP. Some State and local law enforcement agency's that ordered these cars Include but not limited to Idaho-Texas- Florida -Arizona- Utah Also some were used by the Federal Government including but not limited to the United States Postal Service for under cover postal inspector use?... For more information on SSP Mustangs and their complete and accurate history please visit...the the SSP Mustang's web site..............http://www.SpecialServiceMustang.net |
Thanks! I went thru many drafts and prototype signs to get what I have now. I borrowed a little bit from others and I wrote most of it on my own.
This sign is made of that corrugated plastic with black decal letters. Total cost $20.00 at Advance Screen Graphics - Lufkin, Texas. |

Here is one we had done for a customers car....we took plexiglass and painted the back side to match the car and then had a vinyl shop letter it up...

I think that places like Kinkos can put the words on a board if you bring them a cd with what you want on it. But I am no computer expert or anything...
|
Bret.....
Kinkos does a dry mount on a hard plastic board for 5 dollars including printing! thanks for the info! I squeezed it into a clear plastic sleeve that i put in a three ring binder along with other documentation that i keep with the car for display. http://i8.tinypic.com/4lfbm8g.jpg |
I'd like to do that 3 ring thing as well....I scanned in all of my documentation (including the build sheets I have), and thought it'd be neat to display it with each car.
I like the size of that one, also.....shoudn't have to worry about it flying away in the wind.:) |
I think it's called plasti-board and they will dry mount any size you bring them. I just put
out the info sheet and nothing else. if they show an interest i get the binder out of the trunk. This lives in the trunk along with the plastic coffee can that keeps the magnetic masking strips clean and ready to go back on the car after the show. http://i10.tinypic.com/4mjcxo7.jpg |
