posible ssp mustang

im new here, i just purchased a 90 coupe drag car out of long island ny. i think it might be an ssp model. there are no buck tags but the body code is lx2. the dso is 17 0262. the car has plates riveted over the lock cylinders, silcone hoses, relocated trunk release, no interior lights and no armrest. is this a ssp? does anyone know what it was used for? thankshttp://www.centralstreetscene.org/fo...pictureid=2270

Unless the door is off another car than it is a SSP. Do the VIN numbers on the door match the VIN numbers on the dash? According to the DSO it is from the Washington, DC area. http://www.specialservicemustang.net/Technical.html

My guess is that it was used by a Federal agency ie FBI, ATF etc. Without the buck tags it will be hard to tell. Maybe someone with more knowledge than me can pipe in.

can anyone help?

Probably not used by a government agency, since it isn't a DSO 83 car. Unfortunately, you are in the same boat as many others with a car that's difficult to document.

Sadly, that may be the case. Have you tried to track down the previous owners? Did CARFAX show where it was first titled? If you know where it was used you may be able to search DMV records. Don't give up. I bought my SSP only on the word of the seller that it was a CHP car (my 2nd Buck Tag is long gone). But I was able to locate the unit number and gather much information on my own to document the car. So don't give up if you want to find out your car's SSP history. Research is part of the charm to these SSP's.

yes i ran a carfax. it says NICB shipped to orginal dealer. it then showed up in new jersey at 41k miles. then in new york at 48k. 5 reported crashes after that in new york and lots of title transfers. it looks like it got around.

Congrats on the sale! Make sure the buyer doesn't offer to pay extra for the car, and ask for you to give him a check for the difference. :)
