1982 CHP #0548 surfaces....
1982 CHP Unit#0548. It's in really rough shape, but how many are left? The guy didn't include buck tags pics, or one of the door tag, but the VIN number confirms it and it's well within the range.

It will be interesting to see how much it goes for. It looks fairly complete, but rough. The car would still be a nice project though.

Both this one and the one I found last year (#0214) are still wearing the original civvie plates issued after they came from the CHP and the number combos are pretty close so they were retired in the same general time frame:

Up to $1000....that's impressive. Anyone here bidding?

What's with the black interior? I like it, but I thought they all had tan.

If they think like I do, tan interiors stain, black doesn't. 14 years later, I can still vacuum and wipe down the interior of my Feature Car and it still looks presentable, even after 163,000 miles of grime.
|
Also...people just plain like the black interiors. :) They weren't offered from '84-'89, so I guess the only way to get one was to swap over. Sad, because the tan interiors are getting tough to find.

So is the gray unless you can find an all original donor 4cyl car to buy... I am just thinking people just don't like color in the interiors of their cars. Oh well... My CHP issues continue. I need to figure out why the timing is so off... I am thinking the distributor was pulled at one point and re-stabbed 1 tooth off as the #1 Mark has the #3 plug on it. That would also be a good reason why the car runs HOT all the time. Some one should grab this 82 up before it is gone as they are getting harder to find. Plus this one can be saved even if everything can't be put back to 100% it would still be a good representation of an original (the first year of) SSP. I am already saving one that I should not be buying as the wife is going to skin me but hey what's a little pain in a marriage? Matt |
black interior
I like the black interior that is in my 86. But when you dye a panel a different color from what it was. You get one scratch on it and you can see a hint of the original color. It looks like a**.

I agree...someone needs to buy and save this '82. |

It's great to see the '82's finally get some respect. Makes the one for sale around last November look like a $6000 car, but it couldn't sell for $1500. Overall, great for the SSP market.

Wow.....I'm surprised. Anyone know the winning bidder?
|
Just freakin WOW!
This makes me feel really good about my car, and maybe I can finally get them to insure it for what it is worth. |

82 Mustang
Hello,
The VIN sticker on this car was painted over with gray primer. Has anyone had this before? Any ideas on how to remove the primer without killing the VIN sticker? Thanks Bryan 1982 CHP 1990 Arizona DPS 1993 Santa Clara SO |
Bryan,
The sticker on my '83 DPS car was painted over. I used my fingernails (carefully) and just chipped off the paint. I know there's probably a better way, but that worked for me. The paint actually helped preserve the sticker. |

Mike,
I got the paint off the sticker. The place where the numbers are is darker than on your car. I can still read the numbers. The build date is 6/82. The DSO numbers are F0047, RO188, 720102. From your photo, it looks like your car was painted copper. That is the same color that is under the gray primer on this car. |

That's actually my '83 DPS door tag. The F and R numbers stand for "Accessory Reserve Load" (whatever that means.....has something to do with the spring rates). |
Lookin' good. Gotta love those whitewalls.;)
