1986 Idaho SSP 5.0 Mustang, 5 speed
I’m selling my 1986 Idaho SSP Mustang I bought not long ago, regretfully. I’ve always loved the Idaho ’86 cars, and bought this one with intentions to restore. Unfortunately it’s more than I can handle right now with my DPS resto in full swing and the new CHP car that I’ve got. This car is a project, but is a very good start for a very small agency car. It’s one of 22 according to the numbers I have found, and checks out according to the DSO. I received the car, got the A/C working again (all of the AC components were gone and thrown away, I tracked a full system down and installed it). The driver’s seat was broken and badly worn/torn so I put a better looking unit out of an ’84 GT in it (wrong color).
The good: -The body is super solid, and very straight. No frame rail damage, no rust at all. -Both buck tags are present. -VC Label intact and in good shape. -Speedo still there, relocated trunk release, and single key locks. -Car runs like a top, AC blows ice cold. -T5 shifts butter smooth The bad: -Some damage to the rocker panel on passenger side, and the core support is bent on the bottom (probably happened in service). -The car apparently had a battery fire, or bad leak at some point and messed up the fender apron -Driver’s door needs the hinge rebuilt. -Needs tires, they vibrate above 65 mph The car needs a full restoration; Paint, interior, engine bay work, etc. But, it is a great start and is super solid. Idaho cars never seem to come up for sale, and this one is rust free and ready to go. I bought with intentions to restore, so I’m going to cut my losses and let this one go for much less than I have into it. Has a clear Texas title, and is currently registered/inspected. $3300 OBO. That would be a great one for someone to return to inservice condition...best wishes.

I guess I should post up a teaser, what she should look like when done (borrowed from the in-service pictures section of this site):

What type of radio and equipment is it supposed to have? I think I have decals for this one... Is it common for those Idaho cars to have a trunk lip mount antenna? Different looking car but I like the 86 four eyed cars.

Greg,
I hadn't seen your interest in this car till now. GE Phoenix radio One blue light on the dash two amber lights on rear deck unitrol siren all easy to find. I think Chris still has the correct wheels for the car also. buy it.......the price is right!!! :) |

And it's hard to see in the original ad, but please look at the photobucket link. It has about 40 pictures of the car and helps show some of the details that are not posted here. This will be a beautiful SSP once restored, and Idaho cars don't come up often. Someone needs this diamond in the rough! |
Bump to the top!

Those rims on the car, are they 15"?
|
Yes they sure are
|
Chris,
Did you purchase that car from a guy named Roland???? Jerry 91 X-SCHP 2-12-311 90 X-NCSHP Caprice 77 Nova 9C1 83 Malibu 9C1 (Coming Soon) |
No, this guy's name was Jeremy. But it could have been owned by a Roland before him.
|
Do you have any indication what the unit number was for this SSP?
|
I have not found anything, but to be honest on an Idaho car I have no idea where to look. If someone knows, I will certainly try and find it.
|
I was curious too as this is a smaller fleet so I was wondering.
|
I agree. A good question, but I have no idea as to the answer. I haven't seen anything obvious like any kind of label or paint on the door jambs.
|
I do know that the unit numbers are designated by the license plate on the car as it will have ISP-XXX whatever the three digit trooper number is or was. That year could have even been a centennial plate issue too based on what I found here:
http://www.statetrooperplates.com/isp.htm I have to wonder if there was something put inside the glove box lid or on the firewall or even behind the gas cap door somewhere. |

Congrats on the sale, Chris. Anyone on here or did you direct them here so we can watch the resto? Or did they just want a nice Mustang?
Greg |
I hope to see progress of it on here!

Me too!
