1989 $50K CHP Mustang For Sale

Not mine. This car was for sale last year.

Warning: the owner is a known squirrel and God knows what he's babbling about in that ad. His solution for the car not selling last year was to double the price this year.

Geez, ! hope someday someone is able to rescue this unique car.

Pics of it when I last saw it in 2006:

What a mistake IMO...."Top signed by Pete Carrol and Carrol Shelby."

Charlie 06-08-2011 09:36 AM

Truly Retarded

28HopUp 06-08-2011 09:53 AM

Rich, I think you should buy it! :)

Mike, you're not alone in that opinion. Can somebody remind me what significance Pete Carol and Carrol Shelby had with the SSP Mustangs or the CHP? Absolutely nothing, which is what their signatures add to this car. Perhaps a new owner can use some polishing compound to remove those ink marks. And the fake bullet holes and other stickers should peel off, right?

Cobra Jet 06-08-2011 11:13 AM

So, let me ask this...

What makes this CHP EVOC so signifigant over any other known surviving CHP EVOC out there, that IT commands a $50k asking price?

Also, how did the current owner acquire the vehicle?

What is deemed "VERY FAST" by the Seller's craigslist statement? LOL...

mac88chp 06-08-2011 01:35 PM

This car and its owner have been well known in Northern CA for some time and are the subject of this 1996 article:

http://images52.fotki.com/v738/photo...88evoc1-vi.jpg

You can read it here (3 pages):

http://public.fotki.com/Classicchp/s...hp88evoc1.html

The owner has claimed that the car came from the CHP with the red GT seating but I don't believe that fact has ever been confirmed. The presence of the door moldings and trailer hitch are also a bit puzzling but aside from those items plus the roof signatures and the stupid assortment of juvenile stickers that have been added the car is unrestored and mostly original.

It didn't appear in the famous EVOC video featuring the 1992 Mustang because that's the year it was sold off and that video was made some years later. Bottom line: it's a very interesting CHP unit that should be preserved (NOT restored) back to its original condition and deserves better treatment and stewardship than it has received for many years but is no way worth even half the current asking price.

I'd say you are looking at at least a restoration of suspension and critical frame components. EVOC cars are the worst for abuse and carry the most significant issues even with their low miles on the cars, Mustang or not. Face it, these cars are flogged to the point of no return and will not be a good choice if you want reliability unless you spend time going through the suspension, structural points on the car.

As for the seats, it's possible that they replaced them over time as the original seats get worn out but I'd be skeptical of them coming that way from CHP. Interesting $5000.00 car.

GSPI 06-08-2011 03:35 PM

You know, I just noticed this line in the ad:

Owner is the head instructor at Cal and UCLA in collecting and restoring of "Classic Cars"

I checked UCLA's and Cal's websites and could not find any classes in this area. Very Strange.

The owner has also done his fair share of flogging the car post-CHP having run the car for years at open track events:

Some chassis rebuilding is a given here but remember that these are very tough little cars. There are tons of Fox Mustangs, SSPs and non, that are still out there on the tracks today.

Maybe they replaced them as a cheap upgrade when a pair became available. Anything's possible...the '92 EVOC car came from the CHP equipped with an air inlet tube and filter housing off a '94 Mustang.

ImEvil1 06-08-2011 07:37 PM

Just goes to show....any Jackass can get into a magazine.

Cobra Jet 06-08-2011 11:38 PM

curiousity is getting me...

Sooo... has anyone ever talked to the Owner of this EVOC and received any reasoning whatsoever as to why he's asking such an exhorbitant amount of money for that car?

Does this Owner (or vehicle) show up to any SSP shows or belong to any sites?

I mean, ok, it's a CHP EVOC, it has some interesting history, appears to be in somewhat original shape even after retirement - but, I'm just not seeing anything really spectacular that commands a $50k, $40k, $30k or say even mid to high $20k price tag on that vehicle...

A magazine article & signatures - is that why the price is so high?

Low miles? I guess one can say it has low miles which could play a role in its value, but in the same instance, that can be subject to debate since some would say those miles were not pampered miles.

To me, that car having signatures on it, regardless of who's signatures they are (or what they may or may not represent), should really have no bearing at all to the REALISTIC value at which to sell such a vehicle - am I wrong in saying that?

I think it's a really neat Mustang to definitely own AND preserve - but, at it's current asking price, it's never going to sell (unless there's just that one person who has $50k to burn and does not care what that $50k buys).

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm in no way bashing the Seller or Owner, but, there's a point in time when common sense should prevail... well, one would hope....

MOstang 06-18-2011 10:07 AM

The owner has listed EVOC on ePay

And now the corresponding ePay ad....let the comments begin in 5....4....3....2....1.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...k:top:en#v4-33

I'm not going to way in on what something like this is worth. However, I find it interesting when someone lists an expensive car, yet cheaps out by including so poor and few photos and such little info. Seems if you're serious about selling something you could kick in the nominal charge for more photos, maybe include a link to a Photobucket or Fotki site and include some more context on the vehicle and its condition.

I see that he dropped the price by $100!

Attached is the seller's picture of the fiction written on the roof. Wish we had a face-palm smiley here. I heard that this SSP may have been involved in Bonnie & Clyde's capture too, prior to being a UFO escort vehicle in Area 51.

NoDrama43 06-18-2011 12:31 PM

seriously.... it's ANOTHER beat to death EVOC car that the owner is hyping as some sort of famous, most sought after, super rare time machine. It is worth no more than the last one that set the bar at 15k and some change.

The writing on the roof is THIS sellers version of hype/rumor/BS that he is hoping will cause somebody to buy it.

Hype + fabricated documentation and rumor + misinformation = 50,000.00

greed greed greed greed greed greed.......gotta hit a big lick on this one.

where did I put my mop - n - glow ????

NoDrama43 06-18-2011 12:39 PM

I sent him a message asking him to explain how a 250.00 signature from Carroll Shelby could possibly add to the value of a car he never had ANYTHING to do with. I also thanked him for taking the bullet hole stickers off the rear quarter panel.

I don't think he will like my message... but I don't really care.

I am. He is greedy idiot that is lying about something he is trying to sell. His add ought to be cancelled.

He is ANOTHER embarassment to this hobby and we already have enough of them running around as it is.

That is some goodness right there!

GOTTA LAUGH

SERIOUSLY GUYS YOU GOT TO LAUGH AT THE SELLER. HES LIKE A SNAKE OIL SALESMAN FROM THE OLD WEST, REINVENTS HIS CAR EVERY TIME HE ATTEMPTS TO SELL IT. NEXT YOU WILL SEE THE CLAIM THAT MARILYN MONROE WENT A LAP AROUND THE TRACK IN THE CAR. ITS A SAD THING TO SEE A CAR WITH THE LAW ENFORCEMENT HISTORY THAT IT HAS TO BE PIMPED OUT LIKE THAT. NOW CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG BUT THE LAST EVOC CAR I SAW FOR SALE FROM CHP (CROWN VICTORIA) WAS MARKED AS NON STREET LEGAL AND UNREGISTERABLE. WAS THAT POLICY IN EFFECT WHEN THIS CAR WAS SOLD. YOU GOT TO WONDER WHAT ELSE IS NOT BEING SAID.

Don't forget this is the car Bigfoot was driving in that one film....

No, this car was sold long before that policy which was instituted with the sale of the 2002 EVOC Camaros.

stadair 06-19-2011 09:11 PM

Why does this car have red seats when the rest of the interior is gray?

Mustang Kid 08-23-2011 01:10 AM

EVOC cars were beaten and abused on the track, however, the maintanence budget for the EVOC cars was unlimited(not 100% sure, I'll have to ask my dad) and the cars were HIGHLY maintained to ensure the cars were safe(they were maintained better than all the other CHP vehicle fleet). My dads EVOC mustang has had many drivetrain replacements while with the CHP(same with the other EVOC cars).
As for this car, the guy can ask what he wants, doesn't mean he will get though(car is worth what Vintageracer(on ORG) was asking for his 92 EVOC which was 20-25k). Not sure on the seats(like the 92's blue roll bar and CHP decal on seat delete plate, the sport seats may have been added by the guy who drove the car while it was in-service), but all the decals, paint, and equipment is ORIGINAL to the car(CHP may have had the car repainted at some point like my dads car). The person who bought it from the CHP had friends within the CHP so he was able to buy the car with all the equip. and decals still on. Signatures mean nothing for the car. This is what I remember, not all info may be correct, I will double check with my dad who knows more about the car later.
