1986 mustang 5.0, 125,000miles, runs good, looks great with candy apple red paint and flames on hood. Rides good, good tires with mags, good car for weekend cruises.
$3750 or best reasonable offer.

A member there thinks it may have been a Sheriff's car at one time.

Looks like it could be a cool start for someone.

92NM-SSP 01-16-2012 02:03 AM

86 coupe

I talked with a guy today who says the car has 2 diffrent keys one for the door and trunk the other for the ignition system so could it still be an SSP with 2 keys????? and I asked him how high the speedo went up to but he didn't know

92NM-SSP 01-16-2012 02:22 AM

sunroof???????

and it looks like it ahs a sunroof right??????

FoxChassis 01-16-2012 03:45 AM

I thought all SSPs were single-lock, or was that an option? Plenty of parts can be changed out on cars that old anyway.

Hard to really tell if it has a sunroof but it would be aftermarket anyway. Sunroof wasn't available from the factory on coupes after 1984. Or if it's factory looking, somebody went to a lot of trouble to make it that way (conversion using OEM parts or an entire roof swap).

Someobdy just needs to go see this car and get the info straight.

It was an option, but it was available from the beginning.

Another possibily after all of these years is that the ignition was repaired with a new lock cylinder which was keyed differenty.

Not too many office's had red interior though right?

FoxChassis 01-17-2012 07:55 AM

Only dept I have seen with red interior is Texas DPS.

You may be referring to 86 SSPs only (like the one listed for sale) but I'll add the Missouri State Highway Patrol used red interior in some of the various color combos they purchased, although 86 was not a model year they bought.

ImEvil1 01-17-2012 11:15 AM

Many other agencies ordered them in red at various points....Missouri, North Carolina, Pierce County, Santa Clara County and the DSO 83 Gov cars as examples.

FoxChassis 01-17-2012 11:44 AM

The TX DPS red interiors that I have databased are two from '84 and two from '86. I don't database '87 and later so I don't know about any after '86.

Here is an online link to an Excel file used for the SSP database - http://foxchassis.com/vcldata/SSP/SSP.xlsx

Other than the red interior, the car has a full console with warning center. Not a common SSP option either correct?

28HopUp 01-19-2012 10:44 AM

Brian, I have not seen a 1986 SSP with a center console yet, but who knows. The car needs to be verified as a SSP first. It could very well have been a civilian coupe that was put into police service.

Interesting, if only the seller knew if the speedometer went to the Certified 140 mph, or the civilian 85 mph. And the possible remote trunk release button, being relocated. Has anyone tried to contact the seller lately?

92NM-SSP 01-20-2012 05:02 AM

I talked with the guy in charge of selling this car for some kind of organization he belonged to and I had asked him a lot of questions about the car and he said that he would send me pic's and never did, been about 5 days now

FoxChassis 01-20-2012 09:59 AM

LX coupes were the only model in 1986 that did not have a console as standard equipment.

LX hatchbacks and convertibles did.
GT hatchbacks and convertibles did.
SVO hatchbacks did.

You had to specifically order the optional console in an LX coupe. And I believe it was designated by a "C" on the build sheet on line D, position 38.
