A fitting final assignment.

I spoke on the phone today with a representative of the California Highway Patrol Officers Association. He wanted to talk to me about 1992 CHP 9067. He explained that a group of CAHP "supporters" have purchased 9067 and are bringing it back to California for placement in the new CHP museum scheduled to be built in Sacramento CA. The car will also be used by the CAHP for displays, parades, and other events by current CHP Officers around the Stockton CA area until it goes into the museum. It is already scheduled for appearance at 6 future car shows. The car was bought with private funds and the museum is also being built with private monies, donated by supporters.
We talked for awhile about the history of the car, and how I drove to LA to save it from life as a drag car and brought it back on a trailer in 50 pieces in 2000. Until today I always considered my selling that car as a huge mistake, but I now realize that the car is going back "home" and a little piece of SSP history will be passed on to future generations. I am a proud papa today. :) |
Great story!! Glad it's going to a good home.
|
Jim, that's fantastic news! It'll be back home for many to appreciate what it is and the work you put into it.
|
Congrats Jim! That car will be right at home in a museum, it is sweet!

Jim - they didn't happen to say which shows, did they? I've always been dying to see this car in person....finally gonna happen! |
Mike he did not say which shows or events. I will be corresponding with him about some other stuff so I will ask him, or he can post it up here if he wants to.
|
That is so cool, Jim. What an honor, for both you and the car!! Way to go.

Wow! when is that museum going to be open? I would love to visit that museum.
|
That's awesome:2thumbs:
They probably wanted your car because of the quality of the restoration. The CHP likes seeing these cars restored, especially when they are done a close to exact as possible. That's why I want all original equipment on my 85. Correct restorations pay off:D Congrats:cheers: |

very nice Jim!
I don't know if you remember my conversation with the Idaho State Police back when i got you the coloring book http://i13.tinypic.com/4xndhte.jpg but they (The ISP) had a display of their older ISP vehicles and including a Camaro  and when i mentioned the SSP Mustangs one of the museum representative in charge of the car display said you know....we goofed up by not keeping one of those Mustangs! glad to see the car came home..... |
Congrats !!
When I stop at he academy I'll ask about it. They have a lot of CHP vehicles in a warehouse behind the EVOC and range office. Next to the range. 82 Camaro is in there also. I'll get what ever info I can for you. That's great ! |
VERY nice save, Jim! One day I would like to see that car in person. :)
|
Maybe some day when we are old and retired we can make a trip out there ??
|
more information
Talked with him again today and I also corrected my original post to reflect some things. Mike the car will be at Ripon and the museum the car is going into is the new CHP museum being built in Sacramento at the CHP Academy. This is all being done with private, donated funds also, not taxpayers money.
|
I've made the trip to Ripon and it's a nice journey with unbelievable cars showing up from private collections as well as departments. Don't have to retire to go you know!

The plate number on the Merc seems spurious and too new, doesn't it. Mine was E810193.
