1985 SSP on craigslist-SoCal

Someone needs to pick this up!! Most probably a CHP unit, but for sure an SSP as you can see the ground straps on the hood hinges in the engine picture!

I'm very interested, just lacking the funds to make it happen.

1985 Ford Mustang GT - $2000 (Yorba Linda)
Date: 2012-08-23, 10:11AM PDT

I got here a 1985 Ford mustang "foxbody"
It's got a 302 boss v8 with plenty of power paired up with
A new 5-speed manual transmission.
It's got 123k miles on it. It needs a little TLC and is a great project car.
Runs and drives great.
Asking $2000 or best offer.
Warning: has approx. $700 in back fees. I'll be willing to work with you on that.

I sent the seller a note asking for more details.

I sent him a msg asking a few questions. Very interested in this one. Does the vin fit with other 85 chp's? Looks like thw wheels are correct, just needs a few caps.

67gt500 08-25-2012 04:24 PM

He said there is no extra buck tag and no chp number on the door jamb. Maybe the vin number in the vin project would help id this

28HopUp 08-25-2012 05:58 PM

The seller hasn't replied yet to my message. Did he give you the VIN?

Mustang Kid 08-25-2012 06:34 PM

Well, since that is in slightly worse condition than my 85 when I started, I probably could have asked more than $2k for mine:rolleyes:

But my price I would have let my car go for would have been around $3k, but I have no intentions of selling :D

Even if it isn't a CHP, it's still an 85 SSP (and one of the best looking years too :D )

67gt500 08-25-2012 11:52 PM

He did not provide the vin. Seemed like a decent guy. Wonder if the back fees would apply to AZ. That would bring the price down considerably, hard to sell a car with that heavy burden hanging over it.
I agree, those are the best looking ssp's, i have always been partial to the 4 eye mustangs. Bummed the 82 fell through, hope this turns out better. Would like to have a chp in this year and save one all in the same motion.

Congrats on the new car. That looks like a steal at only $1K - good for you! What are your plans for it now? Can you find the unit number above/below the VIN label on the driver's door? Once you get some more pictures, I suggest that you create a thread in the Members' SSPs Section about your new SSP.

:)

Congrats on the buy! Are you planning a restoration or just drive it?
Welcome to the family

svt3434 08-26-2012 12:38 PM

Thanks guys, this is actually my third ssp...the other an FHP and the other a kanab city utah police car. Both I sold to get my dream car, a CHP, which was worth the wait! I am planning a full resto minus the lights, sirens etc until I can locate all that. Otherwise fresh paint, interior pieces, motor rebuild, fresh powdercoating on steelies, etc. ill keep everyone posted on progress. This is definitely a dream come true!!

Mustang Kid 08-26-2012 04:08 PM

Well congrats! :)

My 85 is getting the full almost nut and bolt restoration as well. We'll have the only two completely gone through 85s that I am aware of :D

Thanks for saving this. Would have been a real shame for someone else to use it for side shows. Looking forward to seeing it restored. :2thumbs:

It is an honor saving this and its is in great hands guys. I gave it a full tune today and its a bit sluggish, gonna check out the carb closely tomorrow. Sending out the steelies for powdercoating tomorrow. Ill post pics as I progress.

svt3434 08-28-2012 03:32 AM

Wow! Our chippers are brothers!! BTW in digging in the car today I found the temporary registration slip made out to the CHP, indicated as the buyer. Its in great legible shape! Ill post a pic in my other thread

There are at least two other restored '85s that I know of. The one below was originally done by Jim Yuergelitis (sp?) from Maryland but is currently owned by someone else who I think is on the other board:

The second one was restored by the boys from Concord, CA and last I heard was in Ireland:

Michael, I believe John Bujosa owns a restored 85 CHP Mustang as well. As I recall, he did not know his car's unit number when he restored it. I have tried unsuccessfully to contact him in the past to recommend that he request a Registration History Report from California DMV to see if the original license plate could be determined. But he never replied to my messages. :(

Rhino 08-28-2012 02:37 PM

Yes - John has one as well. I saw it at a show last year - but didn't grab the tag #.

mac88chp 08-28-2012 02:49 PM

I think the Concord crew built Bujosa's car as well. Maybe Kevin remembers the ID#.

28HopUp 08-28-2012 04:23 PM

From the pictures I saw a long time ago when John brought his 85 back to the CHP for a photo-op, he had guessed at the tag number. So the license plate is kinda close to those for an 85, but not that close. Keep in mind when his car was restored the information we have now was not available.

EDIT: Sorry for hijacking this thread :)

svt3434 08-29-2012 02:59 PM

I added pics of.the 85 in my other thread everyone....let me know what your thoughts are and thanks Oi
