1985 SSP for sale in SoCal
Found this in a Mustang forum; guy is looking to get rid of it. Someone needs to save it!
http://www.clubmustangempire.com/for...ead.php?t=9898 |
And yet another!

Both of those cars appear to have been originally painted "Light Regatta Blue". Did CHP have SSPs that color?

I skimmed over the entire 19-page thread on that first car. Attached is a copy of the build sheet he posted, which lists the VIN as 247583 (part of a 36-car CUN batch). That number is not part of the CUN batch of known CHP Mustangs, but the build sheet does identify CALIFORNIA on it. I wonder if this car was purchased by the State of California for another agency or government use? Maybe it was a driver's ed car? Regardless, you can make out the words SPECIAL SERVICE PKG on the build sheet. Guess I should add this SSP (or a number near it) to my list of desired Marti Reports.
I'm not sure where the seller is located, but it doesn't sound like he wants that much money for it. Somebody save it. :) |

I still cannot believe how many 85s have been surfacing. Guess ours are not so rare afterall? :) While a little high - the price is not too bad. Have seen worse. Could be a good project for someone who wants to join our ranks of 85 CHP owners. :) |
Id be willing to pick up that first car but there has to be more confirmation than a copy of a build sheet.
Is there anyone close that could help? Ted |
Hey that's my build sheet. Lol. I signed up here today to try and give as much info to Ted as possible.
|
Welcome to the forums!
If you hang around too long, you will get bit. Be careful! Until then, I'm trying to work out the transport. Thanks for signing up. Ted |

Your SSP is interesting. It clearly was not ordered for the CHP to be a patrol vehicle, so I wonder what State agency used it? This car would be a good one to order a Deluxe Marti Report on to get as much dealer info and other nuggets as possible. The legal owner could also request a Registration History Report from California DMV to see who the first owner was. |
Thanks for the welcome. As i told Ted i know very little about ssp's and i really dont have the interest in them as alot of you do. I got the car from my friend that had to get rid of it cause his sister lost her house. (He bought it from someone else) He was gonna let it go to the crusher. I couldnt see it going to the scrap yard. He had no where to keep it. So i picked it up with the intensions of turning it into a another drag car. Then my friend said he had that copy of the build sheet and said it was a SSP. I know how people love these things so i decieded to build it. Was going to with a resto build on it and turn it back into what it was. But i just dont have the time with all the other stuff im doing to do it. Thats why it went up for sale. I wanted to go to someonet that would do it justice.
I had another friend run the vin for me and he said there wasnt much history on it. So i all i have to go off of is the pic of the build sheet that you guys seen. Vins Match. This is what i got from my buddy when he ran the vin. Quote:

In one of the pics you posted @ CIE I saw the door tag on the driver-side door. Can you post a pic of that door tag? Thanks.
|
I also sent this to Ted. This is the only tag on the drivers door. There also is no tag behind the drivers headlight.

Thanks for posting the door tag. It looks like the TR code is TTTXX. Is that correct?
Date: 07/75 = July 1985 build Exterior Paint Colors - 3V = Light Regatta blue DSO - 720476 = San Jose district sales office, special order #0476 Body - 66B = = Mustang 2-dr sedan (coupe/notchback) Int Trim - FBC = cloth seats, low-back buckets (F), Regatta blue interior (B), deviation "C" A/C - Q = Bright Regatta Blue paint stripes R - Y = radio delete AX - E = 3.27:1 axle ratio, Traction-Lok differential T = 4-sp automatic transmission (AOD) TT(?) = front springs XX(?) = rear springs On the build sheet, the spring codes are TAA (front) and GAC (rear). |
ttt yes. Its either xx or xy. Hard to read.
|
If the first rear spring code is X the second one is as well. The rear spring codes on the build sheet are the same (GACGAC).
|
Ted passed. If anyone in CA is interested let me know. Like to see it go to a good home.

Thanks for the pictures. Am I reading that right? 234804? That makes the 17th 1985 CHP Mustang to turn up, not including the one that was restored a while ago and shipped to Ireland.
|
Yes sir it is.
|
We've hit the wave of 82s and 85s, where are the 84s?!?!?! :headscratch:
I thought for sure there were over 20 85 CHPs now, but I guess not. Pretty rough 85. What is it's unit #? That car is only 4 vins off from mine :D |
I have 16 from that batch of CHPs in my database...
234800 234804 234830 234835 234850 234851 234864 234866 234888 234893 234896 234921 234932 234937 234938 234939 Looks like the first 65 or so (through 234851 so far) had tan interior and the rest had grey interior. All of the door tags that have been found (I have seen six) have "C" for the the third interior trim code. |
Mick, here is the one you are missing -
http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info234868.htm And this is the thread posted by the owner, svt3434 - http://www.specialservicemustang.net...ead.php?t=4458 :) |
Mick, my new '85 for you.
http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info234880.htm Didn't see it on your list. |
Thanks guys. I'll add those last two later. That makes 18 from that batch that I know of.
