Has 2 ground straps on hood... hard to see speedo in pic ... could be one undercover as an Aero notch ??

ChrisL 09-08-2012 03:22 PM

CHP didn't use auto's did they? The interior color is correct for a CHP. Nice detective work on the ground straps! Totally overlooked those.

Two holes on the dash trim under the vent look like they could have been used for a mic clip, but that would be hard to have one there unless there was a bracket that extended out.

Definitely worth saving if it is a SSP. Black dash would need to be replaced anyway (cut holes) so it's not like it had a perfect interior before the black.

Just noticed the shock towers are white, there also appears to be some kind of rocker switch under the radio pointed at the console. Who used white/tan automatics? Oregon?

FoxChassis 09-08-2012 06:01 PM

Haven't yet seen a CHP with an auto but some did have tan interiors in '84, '85, and '86. Haven't yet seen one with 9L paint though.

Only four-eyed with 9L paint and AOD trans that I'm aware of is HERE. There were two so far in the aero. One each in '89 from Georgia and Texas.

HERE is an '85 Utah white/tan but it's a manual.

"All original parts" !!

Never have seen an '85 with an Aero nose? Weren't they all 4 eyed?

FoxChassis 09-08-2012 07:27 PM

Yes, that has been converted to aero.

I maybe wrong here but i thought Automatics came with the big brake peddle? Maybe it was a 5 spd?

FHP813 09-08-2012 11:19 PM

Both the pedals on the fox are small whether stick or aod.

The AOD brake pedal pad is larger and a different shape than the manual brake pedal pad. (See attached images.)

The manual brake pedal pad and the clutch pedal pad are the same. They're just 180º out-of-phase from each other.

You learn something new every day. :)

Well to me it looks like the manual peddle and not the auto anybody else?

Looks like a worn auto pedal pad. The manual has empty space on both sides of the "lines".

Mustang Kid 09-09-2012 11:14 PM

It's an auto pedal. Manual pedals are probably 1/4 smaller width wise.

Well things are starting to add up now ! When I looked at the engine pic, ( next to last pic at bottom row ), I couldn't help but notice the row of solenoids mounted by the frame rail ? Then I looked at the breather lid that said " 4V H.O. and looked at the frame rail again ????

In 1985 there were no V8 4 barrel automatic cars produced; if the car was a 5.0. automatic, then it would have been CFI, (Central Fuel Injection), and would of had that row of solenoids that appear in the pic.

So my guess is that it is factory 5.0. automatic car with the wrong breather top on it...... just my 2 cents.

FoxChassis 09-12-2012 10:52 PM

Good eye on the solenoids. Didn't even think to look for details like that. Now I notice the distributor has a TFI module attached.
