Update on 1992 PA SSP

It has been a few weeks since I posted about my 92. So here is an update. I have the trammission out and at my budy's shop to be rebuilt. Pulled the motor out and have taken the block and heads to the machine shop. Got lucky and block and crank did not need to be machined. Will pick up the block and heads on Wednesday. Valve job and new seals for heads and block cleaned with new cam bearings and ball honed. Have rering kit on the way with standars rods, mains and rings. Also ordered a new balancer from Summit today. Car body taken to NC another budy's shop for rust repair. After the rust repair is done I will have the engine bay repainted. I will bring it back to SC and start putting the car back together.

Ok here are a few pictures. Found re-ring kit on back porch when I got home this morning. Then I went to machine shop and picked up block and heads. I have the crank and mains in the block. I have browed a ring compressor so will put the piston back in tommorow moring.

It's great you putting all this effort into your SSP. While it may not be for everyone, I do like the color combo :2thumbs:.

Update

Engine is rebuilt and still on engine stand (I will get pictures). Went to local pick a part yard yesterday and picked up some parts (Battery tray, window washer tank, vapor line, fuel filter mount and shock tower) all for $58. I was online looking for some other parts and found a sale going on saved $45 on all the parts. The web site is foxbodyworld.com the company is CJ Pony Parts.

John, my 1992 SSP is the exact color combo as yours. Mine is wild strawberry with scarlet red interior. Is yours a 5 speed?

John Connor 03-28-2013 08:06 AM

Have you found a build sheet? If so, where was it located. I haven't been able to find mine.

John Connor 03-28-2013 11:15 AM

Tony no but I have not done anything with the interior yet.

Heading out today for NC to work on car! Came home from a 48 hour shift today and found some items waiting for me on the back porch. :) Spectra 110 watt VHF, System 9000 siren and pa with control heads and wiring for system. Now to get siren speaker and radio speaker.

Been back a few days from NC. I finished getting the old shock tower out and the new one ready to go back in. Problem is the friend who shop it is in and he is also the welder, fell through a celling. This was down 12' on to a concrete car port and messed up his right knee. So he was unable to help work on the car while I was up.
One good point was I had the windshield replace in the 1993 hatch back. So no more leaking windshield.:) Bad thing is the radiator had a hole in it and had to be replaced before I could come home on Monday.

As you can see it comes in handy to have another mustang to look at when putting one back together. I have replace A-Arm bushings on passenger side today and will do drivers side on Saturday. Working a 48 hour shift next two days. Would have got more done today but it was way to hot.

MOstang 06-13-2013 12:55 PM

Coming along great!

Quick update! Been in tramission hell! Put tramission back in no shift pull valve body missing check ball. Put VB back in and shifted through all gears on jack stands and once on road. Then only first and reverse. Pull VB again and find valves sticking diffrent VB and have all gears but OD. Pull VB again and put shift kit in new VB and still no OD. Had to order new OD servo will be in tommorow.
Have car at tire shop today need tire patched and front end alighment. Hope to get car cleaned up and OD fixed the off to Mustang Week car show on Friday. Still need to run 4 wires for wigwags and wire 2 port power supply and get siren programed to work. Have to go back to mom's house in NC and pick up CB. Will post pics after car cleaned up.

Little more on tramission. When ordering parts for it ordered everything for a 92 AOD. When my buddy started putting it back together found out that while car was still in service there was tramission work done. The direct drive drum was replaced with one out of a 89. Bad thing is the 89 uses diffrent clutches and steals. The 92 will also use a 2" band which I ordered. Problem is the 89 won't.

Pick car up from front end alighment and the man said he could not tell any diffrence in the shock tower that was replaced.
