1988 SSP $5000

I've decided to let this car go. I'm hoping it will go to someone who will restore, or at least not mod. Car has been registered, just waiting to receive title, should be any time. I have a thread here, http://www.specialservicemustang.net...ead.php?t=4826 that lists about everything I know about it. Almost all stock. Has just over 4000 showing on the odometer now, and it's still getting drove a little. I broke the passenger exterior door handle, when it froze shut, but that should be fixed before to long. Have a full new set of front light lenses. Overall it's pretty straight, and rust free, except for a little surface and the spots shown. I tried to take pics of all the little nicks on the outside. I believe at one time it had a little fender bender in the front. I will get it on a lift and get pics of the underneath, it's about as solid as they come. I also need to get more interior pics, as it cleans up pretty good.

I'm not in a hurry to get rid of this right now, would just really like to see it go to a good home. I would be willing to trade for other Foxbodies. Preferably a 4eyes with T-tops, or perhaps a 4 cylinder for my son. Also need a good set of heads, like AFR 185's or similar, and a WC rebuilt T-5 .

4eyedfoxdriver 04-11-2013 05:38 PM

Car is located outside Kansas City.
Also wanted to list known mechanical problems. Which the main thing is a grind going into 3rd gear when the tranny is cold. Drives ok once warm but eventually it will need to be addressed. The temperature knob doesn't seem to be changing the temperature, and the ac has no refrigerant , everything is intact. There seems to be a bad ground in the radio system somewhere, as you get the electrical whine coming through the radio. Some of the plastic pieces have started to deteriorate, like the rear seatbelt cover, window cranks discolored . Ashtray lid is broken.....
Otherwise the car drives very good, brakes are in real good shape, new tires and the car has no rattles .

OldSSPguy 04-12-2013 02:02 AM

In the 5th and 6th picture, what is hanging under the car?

4eyedfoxdriver 04-12-2013 08:09 AM

It's part of the inner fender well. My suspicion is that it has had a little fender bender on the passenger front.

4eyedfoxdriver 04-14-2013 04:53 PM

Replaced the front lights today. Also found the ground problem, so no more road noise. Cleaned up the inside and out, as well as the engine bay.

I'm putting the sale off for awhile. I've decided to start some restoration on it, get it back in better shape and drive it . If someone is really interested, they can send me a pm, and see how I feel that day, who knows my plans seem to change daily.

87_TXDPS 04-18-2013 09:39 PM

Sure its an 88?? The 88's had 2 spots.

GLWS! Good lookin car!

4eyedfoxdriver 04-18-2013 11:29 PM

I'm not sure about the 2 spots, but I'm pretty dang sure this is an 88. At least all the title stuff checked out.

Thanks for the good luck, but I'm not looking to sale it anymore. I'm gonna be driving it while I do some restoration.

On a side note, I am hopefully going to pick up my son an 84 mustang convertible tomorrow, to complete the hat trick of 84's L's. I have a 84 L 5.0 Saleen clone, my older son has an 84 L 5.0, and we'll have the 84 L drop top.

That is a former WSP Mustang from WA State. The coding on the firewall is consistent with WSP as well as the cutouts on the console and holes in the body/dash. Cool!

LMK if you want any info on WSP cars.

4eyedfoxdriver 04-21-2013 08:30 AM

Thanks for that info Rhino. You're the first to reference the firewall coding and that is something I've been very curious about. I was pretty sure that it was a WSP, but you've boosted that level to confident.

28HopUp 04-21-2013 09:13 AM

Thanks for confirming that, Ryan. :)

The holes on the firewall match where the relays were mounted for the emergency equipment.

Here's some info on those markings:

The top 4 digits are the inventory # as used in the pre-delivery inspection (PDI). LG stands for Leonard Griffin (Who worked for McCallom Ford in Spokane). He marked the firewall on every car he inspected with his initials. All of our cars have them - even the PCSD Mustangs. The bottom date is when the car was inspected at the dealer.

For comparison - here's a few pics of my cars:

Thinking of moving this along , again. Since previously listed, I've reconditioned the black part of the bumpers, and added a Trickflow top end, with stock cam and 1.72roller rockers, Street Heat intake, BBK 75mm TB , Pro-m MAF, 24lb injectors, cai, OR h-pipe, Dynomax catback, BAMA SCT chip and 3.55 gears. Picked up roughly 70hp over stock, but you can't really tell it's modded just driving around. I have all the stock parts, except a couple pieces of pipes from the emmisions that were rusted, and would be willing to return to stock. Current mileage is 108k. http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/d...ps9f6a422c.jpghttp://i531.photobucket.com/albums/d...psadb70495.jpghttp://i531.photobucket.com/albums/d...ps95e6b323.jpg

Current known mechanical problems,
Tranny still grinds in third when it's cold or power shifted, at some point that will need addressed, and new clutch I'm sure.
Temperature control needs fixed. The knob doesn't change the temp by it's self, you have to reach through the glove box, and help the wire along.
AC was changed over, new hoses and dryer, but still had a leak somewhere. It was needing a charge every couple weeks.
Something kind of funny with the TB. If the idle screw is set right, it's like it's hard to press the throttle initially, right now the idle is around 1000 and it doesn't do it.
It could probably use a real dyno tune , sometimes it just doesn't run as perfect as I think it could.

I would be willing to drive this to deliver it, pretty much anywhere, for the right fee, that's how sure I am in it mechanically getting down the road.

I really want to trade for a 4 eyed Mustang, that I won't feel bad about modding to the hilt, but still has ac and isn't a drag car. I'm open to up or down trades, to a point .

$7000 as it sits, or $5000 with the stock stuff put back on.

4eyedfoxdriver 01-21-2014 11:26 PM

I listed this on Craigslist. http://kansascity.craigslist.org/cto/4298597956.html

I'm a little flexible on the cash price. If someone wanted this without the upgrades, and I did not have to put the stock stuff back on, I could be even more flexible.

coupe 01-22-2014 02:30 PM

Nice car. I recommend swapping the OEM stuff back on...I think you'll get your money out of everything easier that way. Definitely keep pushing it in the SSP community so it doesn't turn into a drag car.

4eyedfoxdriver 01-24-2014 11:26 PM

I hope to see it go to someone who would keep it SSP, there's enough drag cars already.

If someone is interested, I would sale, or trade for $4000 , with the upgrades removed, and the stock stuff not installed.

4eyedfoxdriver 02-11-2014 11:20 PM

Next week it's going in the shop to either have the stock stuff installed and it will still be for sale, or I'll have the tranny rebuilt, and keep it. Either way the $4000 won't be available past then.

Rhino 02-14-2014 01:30 AM

Being a fellow WSP owner, I'd say - Keep it!! They look nice, and, are harder and harder to find.

4eyedfoxdriver 02-15-2014 02:40 PM

No way to keep it now, Got me another 4 eyed http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/d...psc587ebe1.jpg

I really would like to see this go to a good home. I'd be open to reasonable offers, with or without upgrades.

Very Nice!

4eyedfoxdriver 02-18-2014 11:36 PM

$5900

$3700 with the upgrades removed, stock stuff not installed.

I think I'll just keep it for anything less.

4eyedfoxdriver 02-21-2014 02:50 PM

I took the car off Craigslist, and other sights. If someone from the community wants it, feel free to shoot me an offer.

tytec 02-21-2014 09:58 PM

good luck with the sale and a great buy.

4eyedfoxdriver 03-05-2014 07:55 PM

Going to get the stock stuff reinstalled tomorrow.

Car is for sale, to a good buyer.

4eyedfoxdriver 03-09-2014 07:39 PM

The smog pump and misc emissions aren't going to be installed, other then that it's going to be back to stock, had upgrades on for 1500 miles.

$4500

4eyedfoxdriver 05-06-2014 11:04 PM

Thinking about listing this again. Car has had the stock stuff installed. Any interest on here before I list it anywhere else?

MiCVPI 05-07-2014 08:28 AM

Where is the car located and what is the asking price?

4eyedfoxdriver 05-07-2014 08:40 AM

I'm in KC. $4500 unless you want to turn it into a drag car, then it's 10k :)

4eyedfoxdriver 05-08-2014 10:47 PM

Well I have a 3 day weekend, send me some money and I'll drive it to you :)

4eyedfoxdriver 05-09-2014 12:16 PM

Sale pending, not going to a collector, but at least he says he's not going to drag race it....

4eyedfoxdriver 05-10-2014 09:37 PM

Found a little kink in the frame rail. I guess it had taken a harder hit in the front then I knew about. http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/d...ps8701d64e.jpg

No other choice now but to turn it into a drag car....JK

4eyedfoxdriver 05-20-2014 07:48 PM
