New Member from Nebraska

Names Josh and I first of all I want to say thanks for adding me to this forum :)

I just purchased a former Utah 92 ssp mustang from my friend who was living in Salt lake and is re -locating to Houston Texas for work and couldn't take the car with him. So I ended up getting a killer deal on her!

This is my 16th total mustang I have owned ( mostly fox body's) but my 1st ssp car. My neighbor used to have a 93 former NHP car that I always liked, but never really showed much interest in getting one until as of late.

For some of the info/history of the car that I know from my friend and an "Autocheck report". It has lived in Utah all it's life and he was the 9th owner of it.

He was using it for his daily driver while he put money into his STI swapped 00 Subaru RS.

Overall the car isn't in horrible shape but it has had its fair share of bumps and bruises throughout the years and somewhere along the line someone was slowly turning into a race car unfortantly with adding quite a few bolt ons and running weld draglite big n little setup.

In my honest opinion this car seriously got in the wrong hands of people before my friend got it.

Here is some pics...

The day I got it 12-17-13

And how it sits as of yesterday after pulling the front bumper cover off to fix the front bumper cover as it somebody just threw it on and it was about to practically fall of!...also washed it and removed those hideous "BBK" stickers off the fenders

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...228131645c.jpg

My plans for it are pretty simple as I want to "driver/restore" to resemble mostly what it once was but still change a few things.

-Have an all white hood to install
-New 6piece headlights with amber corners to install
-Proper 5.0 fender badges
-Original 10 hole wheels to install ( but will be powder coating them black since I prefer that style of wheel more
-Tint windows
-Add all new A/C components
-Under coat car since I plan to "Nice day Daily this car to enjoy her" :)

Final pics of the buck tags and door tags...

Well that is all for now. Thanks again for the add as I look forward to being apart of the SSP community! :)

Thank you!

I really like how the UHP cars have those special back seats with the zipper bag attached. Glad mine is still intact even though somebody has already swapped out the front seats with 87-89 tweed style.

ImEvil1 12-29-2013 04:56 PM

Welcome aboard. Looks like it's in good hands now.

Awesome! Thanks!

Also I have a question hopefully you guys could steer me in the right direction.

I would like to also add the original or as close to original antenna back to the trunk. The plug in it now is located pretty close to the center of the trunk.

I did a quick search and came up with this thread...http://www.specialservicemustang.net...=trunk+antenna

Is going with a "Hustler xblt-4" going to be my best route?

Js04sILVerBullet 01-12-2014 10:49 PM

Ended up digging into the car some more today and found this under the back seat while I was in the process of installing new carpet and the proper front seats!

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-12-14700.jpg

Does this share any significance on the UHP cars?

Js04sILVerBullet 01-12-2014 11:00 PM

Also found this once I pulled up the carpet

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-12-14709.jpg

It looks like whoever installed these re-enforcement plates got lazy and just left the stems of the pop rivets laying in the car. Once I picked them up you could see the outline of overspray where they just painted over them.

MOstang 01-13-2014 12:41 PM

Interesting pictures....you were asking about antenna too. I'm not sure what type Nebraska ran, but this website and the worldwide web probably have some good pictures you could get a close-up, perhaps with some modifying on the picture, and then post up here for input.

Saw the same thing in my car.
Lots of used masking tape too.

Took your advice and did some searching around with images. I think I found a few cars that have similar ones that would be a style that I will need!

That's interesting and kind of surprising that they would do that.

PR93LXCOUPE 01-14-2014 09:30 PM

That is a really nice turnaround in that interior!!! Nice work

1989 Tx DPS SSP 01-15-2014 09:37 AM

The Floor Pan Reinforcements were installed by Ford when the car was built. Pretty typical to see extra screws and stems left over from the pop rivets.

Good to know! Thanks for the info :)

NICE interior !!! You did a great job !!
Very clean !

John Connor 01-16-2014 09:02 AM

Nice Job!

Js04sILVerBullet 01-17-2014 07:22 PM

:)

Got a little work done today by "de-modding" the car a bit. Trying to take as much advantage as this unseasonable weather we have been having in Nebraska lately!

Ditched the "C&L" Inlet pipe/mass air meter and "K&N" open filter's on the cold air intake and breather.

Installed a stock mass air meter, air box/tube, oil filler cap, distributor cover, and fan shroud as it was missing one when I got the car.

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-17-14031.jpg

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-17-14033.jpg

As you can imagine the car runs/drives night and day difference for the BETTER from before with the stock stuff re-installed.

I still need to install..

-Ignition coil cover
-Replace the coolant over flow tank cap
-Remove the "BBK" headers install stock ones
-Install a "Motorcraft" battery
- Clean up the engine compartment.

nighthawk756 01-17-2014 07:37 PM

Looking so much better!! ;)

Absolutely agree!

Been really busy digging into the car more and fixing some stuff lately

Got the BBK headers removed
http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-25-14023.jpg

Got the antenna cleaned up and installed
http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-25-14039.jpg

Got those whatever style of non factory 5.0 badges removed and was intending on putting the original style ones back on, but had these "Black" original style ones laying around and decided to go with them as I believe the will compliment the soon to be black powder coated stock wheels
http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-25-14037.jpg

Also removed the front splash shields to see how everything looked and found these numbers on the body

Driver side
http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-25-14028.jpg

Passenger side
http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-25-14027.jpg

Also was in the middle of replacing the noisy "throw out" bearing and was very pleased to see how unbelievably clean rust wise this car is underneath for it having 172,xxx miles and a Utah car all its life!

Here in Nebraska we are used to cars rusting a soon as they leave the lot

But this hope to be $15 throw bearing replacement turned into a $200 dollar part job...here are some findings

Transmission dropped.
http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-25-14025.jpg

It was very difficult to get the transmission out once I had it unbolted from the bell housing as the bearing had unfortunately eaten into the transmission bearing retainer sleeve
http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-25-14030.jpg

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-25-14032.jpg

Also the little clip/fork that clips on to the pivot ball was bent
http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-25-14031.jpg

Surprised that the speedometer still worked
http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-25-14035.jpg

And my last finding as the starter cable looks like something had gotten to it and one of the wires was just lying exposed against the body
http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-25-14033.jpg

Time to get some new parts coming and hopefully more work done!

Js04sILVerBullet 01-27-2014 08:56 PM

New 6piece headlights and front bumper cover back on!

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-27-14027.jpg

Parts for the transmission should be here Wednesday! Then I will put the license plate bracket and new all white hood on as soon as I get the transmission back in the car! :)

John10608 01-27-2014 11:04 PM

Man..... I am wore out just reading all of the work you are doing to that car in such a short time LOL
When you are done there, I'll fly you out here to clean the engine compartment on my car !!

lol

:2thumbs: I'm trying to waste no time at all so I can have her ready to drive in the spring time  Plus I love working on these cars and love to do just about anything to help the fox body's and their community...so I just might be on that plane soon! haha!

I agree with John! Love to see all the progress in such a short time! Great job!! ;)

Js04sILVerBullet 01-31-2014 12:03 AM

Got the transmission parts yesterday as planned, and I have been working on it a for a few hours after work yesterday and today.

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-30-14009.jpg

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-30-14011.jpg

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-30-14013.jpg

Transmission back in and got most of the underside of the car undercoated. I plan to take it in to work and use a vehicle lift to touch up any missed spots as it's a little difficult to spray undercoat with the car only a few feet off the ground lol

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-30-14015.jpg

And new/used white hood installed! :D

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-30-14017.jpg

Honestly I really like this picture as it shows the car starting to look like her old self again with this face lift :2thumbs:

Just waiting on a few more parts to arrive Saturday, then time to get her back on the ground again!

She's alive again!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=od_kB...re=c4-overview

Stock manifolds installed, all new power steering lines, new starter cable, and turns out that who ever hooked up the wiring to the starter solenoid had it all hooked up wrong.

Explains why previously the starter would stay engaged for 3 seconds after it would start.

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a.../2-9-14005.jpg

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a.../2-9-14003.jpg

Anybody recognize one of these? lol!

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a.../2-9-14013.jpg

Don't hardly ever see them on fox body's anymore as that was usually the first mod and thing to go in the trash!

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a.../2-9-14015.jpg

If police related, anybody have any idea what this might have gone to at one time?

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a.../2-9-14009.jpg

John Connor 02-10-2014 10:00 AM

That plug is not police related. I am not 100% sure on this but I think it has something to do with daytime running lights. A Canadian requirement from the wiring manuals that I have. Had to chase down wiring when converting my 93 from a 4 cylc to a V8.

Unmrkd 02-10-2014 03:53 PM

I believe the connector is for the fog light on a GT. Even though the LX did not have fog lights the headlight harness was the same for both cars. Ford just left that connector tucked away but obviously not connected to anything on a LX model.

Js04sILVerBullet 02-10-2014 04:36 PM

Those are on there off the headlight harness. This one is in the drivers side fender coming in the same opening as the wiring for the window washer fluid tank.

In the 12 fox body's I have had, I have never seen this before and it had me stumped at first view.

"John Connor" might be right on this one!

John Connor 02-10-2014 09:55 PM

It is not for the fog lights. The head light wiring harness is different on the GT just from where it plugs in to the main body harness. I put fog lights on my 93. I splice into the factory harness to use the factor head/fog light switch.
