1983 SSP package tray

I'm thinking the original package tray in my 83 GSP was of the pressboard type. Is that correct? If so does anyone reproduce it? If so where can I find it in cadet blue?

I would try fox body restoration as a starting point. that may be a tough item to find but I bet it is available somewhere.

NPD has them also but I only saw the regatta blue.....

'82 was the last year for that patterned material, and '83 up are all similar. You can lightly dye the other blue that's available to match if you need to.

Thanks guys!!!

Mike,
So you are saying the 83 was carpeted correct?

ImEvil1 09-08-2015 12:29 AM

Yes sir. Both of my '83s still have the originals in them (carpet). Headliners are both original vinyl in those cars, also.

10-4 Thanks Mike! I appreciate the info... Who reproduces or carries the correct grain vinyl for the headliners?

Mike did it change depending on the trim package? I know both the 84 OSP cars did not have carpeted package trays. "L" interior package. I need to check my 83 FHP to see what it has as well. I think it is carpeted.

:popcorn1: My 83 GSP is a L also please advise as I want to be as correct as possible.. Thank Jim and Mike...

Jim,

That's interesting, because both of mine are GLs. I will take a look in my trim books and see if there's any pictures or mention of any the differences.

I'd have to do some digging....but I found a company that carries the original patterned material more than a few years ago.

Couldn't find that company....did find this one, though. Appears to be the correct, diamond-tier pattern:

Or, the complete headliner, if you prefer,

I went down to the the library at one of the local universities and made digital copies of the interior trims pages from their four-eyed-era Detroit Body Products books. They did not have the 1983 book there at the time that I went but they did have 1982 and 1984, so they may be of use to you.

It is a large file (21 MB)...

Good stuff, thanks Mick.

I have quite a few of the trim books from Ford, but I'm not sure if I have one for '82 or not. I do have the '83 if you need pages from it.
