My '93 SSP

New to the forum and the world of SSP cars. However longtime mustang owner. I picked up this car at Ford Carlise this past June. Plan was to go over the car and flip it. But after doing some research, it seems like I picked up a pretty rare SSP and I just may keep it awhile. Here is the Vin: 1FACP40E6PF177869, DSO is 83 3085. It's a reef blue auto car. Full options including cruise, rear window defogger, am/fm cassette, and all power equip. The rare comes with the sport articulate front seats and a block heater. I know the seats are a rare option but not sure on block heater, never read anything on this. So obviously it's a government car of some type, car fax shows it started life in Delaware. Any input on my car is greatly appreciated. Car is in excellent shape with no rust anywhere. How do u post pics on the forum??

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like a nice car. Are you having problems attaching the pics?

Welcome to the forum! Several of our members collect info on SSPs (myself included). The attached photos were sent to me from when your car appeared on ebay back in 2010 (as an attachment, the file size is limited. I can email the pics to you - shoot me a PM). It is hard to read, but the seller claimed that the car was used by a local police department in Maryland. Since this is a GSA car, its time with a local PD may have been after its use in Federal service.

Please post up clear photos if you can of the VIN label and the Buck Tags, and we can add your car to our VIN Project.

That's pretty cool. Attached is another '93 GSA car with a DSO number one off from the car in this thread. The other car is in a batch of 10 consecutive VINs but with one other confirmed SSP in the group from another agency. This one is not yet in the VIN Project because the SSP option has not been confirmed (Buck Tags or Marti).

As stated, the attached VIN label is for another '93 GSA car (posted for comparison sake)

Gotta ask...is the base back seat correct with the Sport articulated fronts?

FoxChassis 08-21-2016 03:53 PM

Should be "G6" (non-A/S cloth low-back buckets, Opal Grey) on the buck tag.

ImEvil1 08-21-2016 10:50 PM

For whatever reason, a lot of those cars got the sport seats (front and rear), despite what the door tags read.

Someone probably swapped those rear seats out.

FoxChassis 08-22-2016 10:49 AM

Articulated Sport (A/S) seats were standard in the 5.0L coupe starting in 1991.

Most of the 1991-92 SSPs had NON-A/S code ("F") on the door tag and buck tag. Very few had A/S code ("D") on the door tag and buck tag.

All of the 1993 SSPs that I have seen both a door tag and a buck tag for (21 so far?) have A/S code on the door tag but have NON-A/S code ("F" or "G") on the buck tag. Example: 1993 FHP #0805

So what does the D6 mean on my Vin for Int. Trim? Do we think these seats are original/optioned or someone added later?

BTW, I did post the car for sale on Pittsburgh Craigslist. Ill c if I can add a link later tonite.

FoxChassis 08-22-2016 08:33 PM

D6 = cloth & vinyl Articulated Sport seating (D), Opal Grey interior trim color (6)

Your front seats are correct; your rear seats aren't.

FoxChassis 08-24-2016 10:58 AM

I have to disagree that the front (A/S) seats are correct.

I just looked at a bunch of 1993 in-service pics (all agencies, not just DSO 83) and all of them that I could discern the type of front seats from the pics looked like they were non-A/S front seats, and all of the 1993 DSO 83 pics I could find show the front seats being non-A/S cloth. Yet ALL of the door tags and Marti reports say A/S seating was installed, BUT the buck tags all have the non-A/S code.

MOstang 08-24-2016 07:25 PM

That's some great research!

You know, you might be right on the '93s. I can't find any, either.

I have a bunch of pics of in-service '91's that have the sport seats, but I need to add them to the VIN registry. Been meaning to do that...

Not holding out. Just have to find them and add them.

I still want to do that little feature story about some of those cars as well.

FoxChassis 08-26-2016 08:17 AM

Re: A/S seats in 1991-92 units...Almost all of them have NON-A/S codes on the door tag/Marti report and the buck tag. Only a few, like about a dozen out of almost 200 that I have seen tags/Martis for so far, have A/S codes on the door tag/Marti report and/or the buck tag.

ImEvil1 08-26-2016 12:31 PM

I'll get a couple posted this weekend (and added to the project).
