1988 Fla. SSP
Hi, guys I was looking for alittle help with finding out if my florida ssp mustang started out as a fhp car or just a sheriff car. it's missing one of the buck tags car was painted a couple of times but I know for sure it started its life in black with (gray interior ),has a spotlight , has the holes in the trunk for the radio equipment ,and small antenna hole in the trunk lid. Also has a property of levy county sheriffs sticker in the door jam. Did the vin check but wasn't any help.Hopefully someone point me in the direction . Thanks

I do not believe any 1988 FHP's came with gray int. post up a pic of the door sticker and that should be enough to decode it for you... Foxchassis should be able to decode it if you do...

First year that I have seen an FHP with grey interior trim is 1989.
|
Was your car painted white? I worked with a guy from LCSO who drove a white 88 or 89 former FHP.
Also, I got your message reference the pic upload. Should be fine if its a jpg or bmp. |
Yes , believe one of the colors was white . Looks to me the car started black, was painted white then blue and then back to black

Welcome to the forum. We have yet to confirm a SSP in that DSO from 1988, but the Orange County, Florida SSPs (different DSO #) are a few VINs ahead of it within the same consecutive batch of VINs. According to the Florida DMV site...
https://services.flhsmv.gov/MVCheckWeb/InquiryView.aspx ...your car also a police-branded title in Florida - |

I have seen data on only 10 unmarked FHP with grey interior. One in 1989, two in 1992, and seven in 1993. The rest were black and tan.
Of course I do not have data on every FHP so there are bound to be more. |

I think Bill (28HopUp) is asking for a pic of the Levy County Sheriff sticker.

All of the black and tan cars I saw at auction from '90-up had grey interiors, beige before that. No idea on any unmarked cars prior to '88. |

Nice DHSMV sticker! The guy I worked with said his was a former FHP...but it was a 5 speed, so I assumed it had been a marked unit.
|
So is the dhsmv sticker a good clue that's its fhp..?

1983 = brown 1984-89 = tan 1990-93 = grey Some of the unmarked cars had the same trim as the marked cars of the same model year. Others not so much, probably due to the fact that the paint color of the unmarked car would not allow the same interior color as the marked cars. Ford didn't start putting special paint colors on the SSP door tags until the 1989 model year but I believe FHPs with no paint code on their door tag were marked cars and those those with a paint code were unmarked. |
So it was probably just an unmarked patrol car ordered by Levy County Sheriffs Department..?
|
Look at an Auto check on this vehicle. Had an accident in 90 and 93 so you might be able to get info that way through the Accident report case numbers. Has had 3 or 4 owners.

MY guess is it was an unmarked FHP first, being that it has a DHSMV sticker, and then an LCSO car second. Some county and city/town/village departments got second-hand cars from states when the states were done with them.
The DSO buck tag would probably tell you whom ordered it, unless it just says "DSO POLICE", but since you said that's gone it's going to be more difficult to figure it out. Tom's suggestion on looking up the accident reports is a good start. |

That hole, while not the typical round one, is a common location that FHP used to route the radio wiring. http://www.specialservicemustang.net...87interior.jpg |
Thanks for the help guys .. I will post more info when I get it

I'm bumping an old thread, but did you ever order a Marti Report for this car?
https://www.martiauto.com/reports2.cfm |
No never did a marti report but I will look into it . But with all the proof i have posted already I was hoping to get it on the registry as a unmarked 1988 fhp
