1991 LoJack FHP 432

Wanted to start a thread to update our slow progress on getting FHP 432 accurately equipped as seen in Real Stories of the Highway Patrol. We'll start on one project then have to wait for a part or something to come in, so we'll move to something else to keep the flow going. When we acquired the car, there were numerous incorrect items, i.e. roof numbers, fender badges, Jetsonic feet, etc. that we've wanted to correct.

In talking with Trooper Brown recently about how the car was equipped, he stated his car was never used for patrol, that he worked robbery and typically escorted the University of Miami football team; which he still does today. He added that his car was never equipped with a radar or VASCAR. He remembers it having a "tan" Motorola radio as well on the dash. He recounted when the LoJack system was installed. He was informed it was going to be and they were going to be on a TV show with it. When he arrived the next day, they took the car and installed it. I couldn't get the best screenshots from the RSHP episode, but you will notice the LoJack display panel mounted to the far right of the dash, fairly high up, as Trooper Brown remembers. It is much, much clearer as the video is rolling and the camera focuses better. As the car is driving away, you get a good shot showing the radio speaker mounted below that.

I thought it was strange for the LoJack display to be mounted that far from the driver, but low and behold, the mounting bracket holes for the LoJack and speaker lined right up with the existing screw holes. You can also see where the hole was drilled in the dash for the wiring. Based on the other mounting holes there, I would assume this is where the Micor unit was mounted with the JSS controller.

Roof numbers are also gone and correct LoJack antennas have been reinstalled. Original holes were simply filled in when car was painted by a previous owner, so we were able to drill them out. Not pictured is the Jetsonic cable hole that was redrilled and the other hole for the roof antenna.

I'm trying to determine what type of radio antennas were installed (roof and trunk lid). The roof antenna appears to have a black base, which is different than most I have seen and the trunk antenna appears to be something like a dual band with a spiral in the middle.

Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated.

Nice work....the original screen-caps for that car are in the resto doc on this site.

Here is the info on the radios (also from the resto doc).

Thank you Mike. I remember reading that in doing some research and initially assumed 432 would have had both the Motorola Micor and 800MHz radios in '94. Trooper Brown did not mention whether it did or not, other than it did have the "tan" Motorola mounted on the dash. I will ask him more about that the next time we talk.

I picked up these Federal deck lights, along with blue filters. I thought I had a pic of them mounted in the car, but can't find it on my phone.

Those are the correct lights...nice job! I need to update the resto doc with pics of those from the member who originally provided the info on the model numbers.

It would have had both radios back then. If you mention it to him, he will probably remember. The rear antenna is for the 800 MHz system.

Rear decks lights installed. Found a "similar" hat for display. Trooper Brown said he still has the one pictured in the RSHP episode in the back of his current car.

Received a care package from Trooper Brown. Original front and rear 432 plates and his LoJack Certificate. I can't express how ecstatic and appreciative I am! :danceban: :danceban:
