'85 CSP "EVOC" Car

Any resident Colorado State Patrol experts? I've stumbled on this '85 I'm hoping to confirm the story on. The current owner of this car took it to an event in Colorado a number of years ago and in speaking with numerous CSP Officers, was told this '85 was originally ordered as a captain's car, then was moved over to a training course and used as a EVOC car for officer seat time.

In looking in the VIN project, the DSO matches that of two other CSP's listed and the VIN is the last one listed in that batch.

Just curious if anyone else has anything to confirm or refute this story. I have emailed Major Bratt, just to see if he might can dig anything up for me. Thanks.

I am unsure of the story but I super super like that car!!!!

Nice looking car, who is this Major Bratt, I would like to get info on my CO car.

ImEvil1 09-18-2014 10:49 AM

Cool car. I've got some old CSP stuff I will look through, but please keep us posted on what the Major says. I can also try to contact the Trooper that drove my '83 again to see if he remembers the car.

Major Barry Bratt. I stumbled on his name in searching the forums. Another member posted that he was able to provide some info on his CSP.

Thank you Mike. I'm really hoping to confirm the story the current owner was told.

Good luck, Jonathon! Here is the car's new page in our VIN Project -

The paint code appears to be 2A, which would be Medium Canyon Red (not a common CSP color by any means)

Wow, one cool car there. Good luck with your research.

Reminds me of a cross between the 86 5.0 coupe that I used to have and the 86 CSP SSP (cloned as a GSP that never existed) that I sold at auction. I hope you get it for the museum, so I can see it when I come to visit my old 89 MSP SSP.

I owned that 86 CSP before it was cloned.. really love this car hope you can get the full story.

We're on the fence about it. Originally, we were looking for a CSP that would have been marked in-service. But this car is very intriguing. Major Bratt responded that he'll certainly see what he can dig up for me. Fingers crossed.

I can see from a museum standpoint where marked cars would probably be a better draw than unmarked ones (except for minimal marked ones like the MSP SSP of course). :D

Our thoughts exactly. Well, the MSP is marked on one side.

Just spoke with Major Bratt. After speaking with numerous officers, he said he was able to confirm this was ordered specifically for Chief Dempsey. It was later sent to the troop in Rifle and used as a training car. To his knowledge, this was the only non-white Mustang ordered by the CSP. :2thumbs:

ImEvil1 09-24-2014 02:49 PM

Good deal. I was hoping he'd be able to confirm it for you.

Major Bratt of the CSP was at my house Saturday with another fellow (the one who bought my B4C Camaro). He showed me the pics you had emailed him...I said oh the ones that Jonathon Powell emailed to you . He was a very pleasant man to visit with and a real car guy! He mentioned thinking it was their Chief (I think that was the term he used) Mustang vehicle. Is that what he got back to you with, Jonathon. By the way, the Major has a very cool (and unusual color) Charger (unmarked) assigned to him . Sounds like he and the CSP may get involved with next summer's show in Colorado Springs, CO.

I apologize for the delayed response Mike. I actually spoke with Major Bratt after his visit with you; he mentioned that he had. He stated that from the individuals he spoke with, all corroborated the story of this being Chief Dempsey's car, then was used as a training vehicle at their post in Rifle.

It finally made it. Not the best picture with the angle of the sun though.

Wow, that's incredible!!!! Very nice! What a story and car!

MOstang 10-28-2014 08:20 PM

I'm going to order a Marti Report to confirm, but the color matches the paint code on the door label. According to Major Bratt, to the best of his knowledge, this was the only non-white Mustang CSP ordered.

Very cool car! Glad you got it Jonathon! :2thumbs:

It's a little cold natured, but drives great and idles perfect.

Jonathon: is there any way you can get a clearer image of the door tag? I am having trouble making out the third character in the INT TRIM code. It looks like an E but I have never seen that letter in that third position (only A B C or D). Is the main buck tag (the one with the last six of the VIN) still on the car? Thanks. Mick

stangman86uhp 10-29-2014 08:29 PM

Man thats awesome!!! Congrats!!!!!! Im super excited for your purchase.... and a great looking car!!!!

NoDrama43 10-29-2014 11:00 PM

good stuff. Major Bratt and the CSP are number one when it comes to these cars. They will go way out of their way to help you out. Congrats on the super rare car. Major part of history right there.. !!

Mick, here are the best two I have on my phone. I can get some more over the weekend.

FoxChassis 10-31-2014 12:17 PM

Thanks, Jonathon. Still hard to see some of those door tag codes, and the buck tag codes. If you can can some better pic, when ever you have the time, would be great. Thanks again. Mick

How about this?

FoxChassis 11-03-2014 02:59 PM

Thank Jonathon. That is a very good image of the buck tags. The car has air conditioner and not much else. I'm sure Bill will add them to the VIN Project. Let me know if you can get a better pic of the door tag.
