FHP car with a chip?
I purchased a FPH notch off the state auctionblock in gainsville Florida in late 1989. I drove this car as a daily driver for years while in the navy. After several years I happaned across a mystery wire under the dash and traced it out a piggy back chip on the ecm. The end of the wire held a toggle switch that had two positions. One position was "stock" and the other was "offroad" and when placed in the offraod position the only butt-o-meter reading I could get was a hunting idle. I eventually wrecked this beloved machine in 1997 and salvaged everything in the car. I happaned across this ecm the other day and thought this would maybe an interesting piece for the DSO fanatics. I recently sold a CHP 1988 notch and miss it everyday. I contacted the company who it originally came from and still await a reply. Anyone else ever find any bonuses in their cars?

Welcome to the board.
That's an interesting find...probably something added by the Trooper that drove the car. Was it an '87? The only things I found in my '93 (also bought in Gainesville....Go Gators) were some uniform buttons and a broken portable mic clip. :) |
Actually this was an 86, black steel wheels no single key, oil cooler or trunk release! Sure looks like this was done by the officer. Sneaky sneaky
As soon as I receive a reply from http://www.efisystems.com/index.html about any info on this mod I will post. RSH |
Welcome to the forum!! I have a 1986 FHP (See my link to pictures) that is the process of being restored. Let me know if you see this style box in one of my pictures. I am still finding things on it and while the trunk poper was not visible, the connections and hardness to it was stuffed deep inside the dash. I fished it out and it works.

Anyhow...would you happen to have any pics of the car? Always nice to see the 'ol four-eyes. :) |
