Wanted: Telephone Style Handset & Portable to Mobile Converter

Hello - I'm trying to acquire correct equipment for my 1990 North Carolina State Highway Patrol Mustang. To that end some items I need still are to acquire the Telephone Style Handset to the right of the Motorola 9000 Control Head in the photo.

Also I need to acquire the portable to mobile converter as pictured in the photo. Would also be appreciative if anyone knows more specific information on this particular unit.

To see the photo, please go to the thread link below...

Still need Convertacom; have purchased telephone handset

Hello - I've purchased the correct Telephone Style Handset. Thanks Mike for your guidance there!

Now just need your help on identifying make/model and a point in the right direction where I can buy the portable to mobile converter (convertacom) as pictured in the attached photo in above posting.

Also see photo at the link just below...

this has a a photo from a 93 NCSHP SSP, which has a closer up photo of this piece of equipment I'm trying to obtain or at a minimum identify the make/model to aid my search.

Thank you!

No prob, Mike....glad to help.

I have no idea who makes that converta-com...I'll keep an eye out, though.

Did a little checking...

Geoff Fors actually has a section posted for odd radios, and he mentions the "Aerotron" brand used by NC. Here's a link to his site:

Radio reference has a guy who probably still works for NC, and he seems to have a wealth of knowledge about their equipment. Here is a link to the thread:

I'd join there and PM him.

Mike - Thanks for your research on this piece of equipment. Going to be interesting to learn just what it is. I put a a posting on Radio Reference in the Wanted section a couple days ago. Will PM this gentleman as you've suggested...he'll probably be able to help me out. I'll be sure to let you know what I learn. Thanks again.

Wanted: Tait 25 watt VHF mobile radio/crossband repeater/walkie charger unit.

Hello,

At Mike's suggestion I sent a PM message to a person over at RadioReference.com who appeared to be pretty knowledgable on equipment North Carolina used/uses. That gentlement replied to me with quite a bit of information. Thanks Mike for your help...it paid off with some good info.

I know what type of converatcom was in my North Carolina State Highway Patrol SSP. Here'a how he described what was used...a Tait 25 watt VHF mobile radio/crossband repeater/walkie charger unit.

Although retired this gentleman is retired he was one of the people who were hands on with installing and maintaining the equipment for North Carolina. He's evidently still friends with a number of the radio personnel with the NCSHP and is going to see what other info he can gather from them to assist me in my effort.

If anyone has suggestions on where I can find this piece of Tait made equipment I would be appreciative. Have been surfing on my day off and coming up empty so far.

Warm Regards,

Good to see your progress....pretty quick, too.

Glad you were able to find out what it was.
