1986 Nevada Highway Patrol
I have a lead on a 1986 NHP vehicle. Is this a "rare" car? I have not laid Seuss on the car yet, but the owner says it's in decent shape body wise but smokes! Just want a little feed back from some knowledgeable people.
Thanks in advance. |
From what I understand, and others can correct me if I'm wrong, but supposedly there were only 3 85 Nevada SSP's since it was the first year they tested them. But the number of 86's is still unknown?

Have any from 1986 been found? I don't seen any in the VIN Project. I just did a quick search on the board for keyword NVHP and nothing for 1986.
The only VINs in 1986 that I can find going to NV originally was this group: 1FABP26M1GF206550 - NV 1986 > CA 1993 1FABP26M3GF206551 - NV 1986 > NV 1995-2009 1FABP26M5GF206552 - NV 1986 1FABP26M7GF206553 - NV 1986 > NV 1996-1998 > AZ 2001-2006 > AL 2006-2010 1FABP26M9GF206554 - NV 1986 > NV 1996-1997 > UT 1998-2000 1FABP26M0GF206555 - NV 1986 > NV 1995 > TX 1995 > TN 1995-1998 > NV 1998 (rebuilt/rebuildable title 1998) 1FABP26M2GF206556 - NV 1986 > NV 1992-2000 > AZ 2001-2005 (scrapped/destroyed title 2005) 1FABP26M4GF206557 - NV 1986 > NV 1994-2007 (salvage title 2007) 1FABP26M6GF206558 - NV 1986 1FABP26M8GF206559 - NV 1986 > NV 1996-2006 -----------10----------- Is the one you're looking at 1FABP26M7GF206553? |

I'm working with Dollartree on this one. If he doesn't save it, I will. |
There are a few photos of 1986 Nevada SSPs, one of which was discussed here:

Couldn't find a title application on record in the state of AL.

Looks like the move from AZ to AL was in late June 2006. There are registration events in AL from 2006 to 2010, and an AL title number. I just could not find an AL title application using that VIN.

All events from 2006 to 2010 were in Atmore, AL and the title number from 2007 was 37559510. A lien was also reported then.

Just checked that title number and it matches the VIN. You can get a report for $6.

This is one of my unicorns, hope you are able to get the title thing figured out and save the car. Very, very cool.

Got any pictures yet?

Yeah, I have a few but it took a while getting back and it was dark so I'll post a few and try to get some better ones next weekend. Guess I need to start a members thread but here's a couple....

Tag....Edit: it won't let me post the same pics I posted in the project?? Oh well.

Great to see you made the deal and have another important one back in good hands. Congrats! :2thumbs:

Wow, awesome news! Can't wait to see some updates on this one, glad it went to a loving home!
|
+1. Congrats!
|
Thanks Chris and Mike! Since I'm just about done with the FHP, I'm having a hard time deciding which resto to start first ....the Bama or Nevada lol. Tough decision! :D
|
Do the home team first, LOL.

You could just let me get the Bama and that way you'd be freed up to do the Nevada lolol  Just kidding Brad... Stick to your original plans or try to work that "other deal" you told me about :D |
Congrats on getting the car. I vote for AL first.

Well, I've been speaking with Mike (NHPcars.com) a little over the last week about my 86.
We're fairly certain, unless more info comes to light, that we know what unit mine was. He feels very confident there were only six 86 NHP SSPs. Since my car had the rear bumper replaced there wasn't any hope of locating the unit number from decal remnants. My car actually has an antenna hole on the top of the driver's 1/4 along with the more usual whip antenna hole and the hole on the top of the passenger 1/4. So we looked over the available in service pics of the 86's. We were able to determine from the pics(unit #'s and tag numbers visible) that Unit's 089, 101, 026, 127 and 178 didn't have the driver's side antenna on top of the 1/4 like mine. (at least not at the time the pics were taken) We only have one more pic of an 86 and it's just a shot of the driver's side so unit # was unavailable and it actually had the antenna on the top of the driver's 1/4 like mine does. So making an educated guess, we feel that is unit # 289 and the only one out of the 6 that showed that antenna. So, unless more evidence were to show up....making an educated guess with the evidence available, we think my car was Unit #289, Tag 115, Region HQ/Carson City. He also said Carson City would be a good reason for the additional antenna for an extra scanner or radio to hear/assist the local Sheriff's Dept/City's. |

VERY KEWL BRAD ! :2thumbs: 289 Is a good # |
Nice goin', Brad!
|
Thanks Bobby and Bill! I was worried that I wouldn't ever be able to find out the unit number. But thankfully that additional antenna hole gave me that one extra detail that helped track it down.
|
Great process of elimination.
