Thanks for adding the personal touch to those photos, John. As chp1982 said, there are a lot of stories associated with these cars, and they were truly a special and unique era in the history of the CHP. I think adding some of the human side has value.

Compliments of former CHP officer and the owner of 0209, is a photo of the first 1982 Mustang issued to Sante Fe Springs. The Officers in the photo are: James, Boyland, Parra, and Sotelo.

Officer Charles (Chuck) McGuire with Bruce Adama at Edwards AFB. This is the same event that Officer Daniel Cameron provided two photos from (posted previously).

Fortunately the Mustang was the only one seriously injured in this interesting situation.

Our 5th confirmed totaled unit along with 0202, 0205, 0391, and 0269. First hand accounts have provided some staggering estimates of how many of the '82's actually made it out of service.

Trying to get caught up. I was fortunate to have the executor of the late Officer John Rolfes' estate provide me with numerous photos of the crash of 0391 as well as an article. The pictures are on the small side.

Incredible impact. Officer Rolfes was pretty lucky that day.

Thanks for sharing those photos. Those crashes looked quite serious. I guess it is a good thing that these Fox cars crush so well to absorb the force of the crash. [/yikes!]

Keep it up, Jon. You're going to find 0567 yet!!

Another photo of 0238 surfaced with Ret. Captain Dave Webb.

The above photo was posted on the Oceanside PD Facebook page. Searching their photos turned up another! Less than a few minutes after posting the photo on the CHP Old School FB page, a retired officer was able to ID the 3 CHP Officers as well as the car - Again 0238! "One of these Officers "stole" it on my day off"

Most have seen this picture of 0574 before. The only known photo of an '82 with this CHP decal. According to Officers that drove them, this decal was associated with the Air Patrol units that were under a federal grant.

Well, now there's another one! Retired Officer Richard Swift was kind to post this picture of his Mustang the other week. It was assigned to the Air Operations Unit, Valley Division. The photo was taken at his house as he was allowed to drive it home and care for it. Officer Swift didn't recall the unit number but it may well be 0574.

A number of high quality photos from a Japanese magazine called Combat were scanned and posted. I found a copy on ebay and it's $125+. That's not happening. Luckily, the moderator of the FB group CHP Old School made most of them available. Officer Mike Clark appears in most of the pictures.

Unknown Officer. Check out the dymo tape on the dash. Someone really marked it up. Red tape on door jamb does NOT appear to be reflective.

This spread was huge and there are a few more pictures. A rear 3/4 view beauty shot as well as a shot of the trunk contents. Unfortunately, the trunk pic is far too small to decipher much. it does not appear to have a trunk box but rather a silver case in its place. Similar to some of the CHP camera cases I have seen. Hopefully this image becomes available before too long.

Good stuff. Thanks for taking the time to post those up. I need to take all of these and move them to the in-service Gallery at some point (and the resto guide as well).

Cool pics! I've been following most of these on that page, but evidently missed some of these more recent ones.

Officer Tony Farrar, taken in March of 1983 at the Hayward Office, was graciously shared with me recently. Fresh out of the Academy, Officer Farrar was assigned to this unknown unit. Apparently he disliked it because his legs were too long and the car was unstable at high speeds.

A classic photo now with a name! Per the man himself, Officer Robert (Bob) Cameron was on a real traffic stop on I15 near Calico Ghost Town and the guy agreed to play along. This and the accompanying picture finally have a backstory and name.
