CHP-installed seatbelt
1 Attachment(s)
My '82 has the black CHP-installed seat belts. See photo. Well, mostly. The driver side belt is there and both buckles, but the passenger side belt is missing. The hole is in the back of the rear floorboard and the buckle is there, so one was installed at some point.
Anyone have a source for these? Again, it's the passenger side that I need. Thanks, Greg |
Anyone know where these were sourced from so that I can replace my missing passenger belt?
|
80's ford pickup truck.....I think.
|
I'm pretty sure that they were an aftermarket company. I think we talked about it on ORG a few years back, so try doing a search there, Greg. Mine still have the manufacturer's name labels on them, IIRC, so next time I'm out there I can take a look (and get you that sample).
|
Wow, if that's the case, Pull-A-Part here I come!
Or if you're right, Mike, then I'll anxiously be waiting your follow up. Headed to .org in a few to research there. Thanks, guys. |
I will check my 82 also. I removed mine and they are stored in a box in the trunk. Maybe there will be some info on them.
good info Mike. I have no idea where the truck thoughts came from. Just seems as though I had heard that previously. |
Mine are missing altogether, though the holes are present, so I would be very interested in where to get replacements...
|
Anyone have any luck? I did pull the belt out all the way (almost didn't get it wound back up) and found a label, but it's too worn to decipher.
|
There was a CVPI back seat that I remember not liking having to install, that came with its own seatbelts and you removed the factory belts. I always thought that the pictures of the CHP belts made me think of the ones that came with the seat, but I cannot remember the brand of the seat. I don't think it was a ProGard, but I could be wrong.

Got this much from the passenger side buckle assembly...

American Safety, as you thought.
|
Excellent. I had this on my list for tomorrow so thanks for posting it up. Got stuck on a meth warrant for this evening so make it 50 hours in three days......:(
Nothing says Happy 4th of July like the ram hitting your front door along with the happy cheer "police...search warrant"... :) |
No worries....I have been meaning to do it, but I've been busy, too. It gave me and a buddy an excuse to jump on the bikes and take a ride over.
Greg, I also tore off a small piece of the package tray. Let me know if this needs to go to you or Matt@FMR for the repop comparison. |
I need to get one of those package trays. Well actually about ten of them

Thanks, Mike!! For the package tray sample, send it to me, please. I'll post up my comparison.
SMS did not send me a sample with the assortment I got from them. I guess it wasn't a selection for me to check. Their sample for the black cloth is the same as Riley's car. All of the photos I have seen of original unrestored seats is different, so I'll be emailing them with comparison photos to see if they can match. They nailed the headliner and seat vinyl, but the carpet looked way too light. I've got clean original carpet under the seat footings and it's totally a different shade of tan. You can see that in my post for the "new" seats. Can you guys look at that to compare with your carpet? I need to scan the SMS samples for y'all to see. Thanks for your service, guys. Nice to know someone's out there doing what you do. Memphis lost an officer last night. Shot multiple times in a downtown hotel stairwell while responding to a disturbance call. Husband...father...son...friend. Tragic incident. I didn't know him, but I've probably seen him many times since I work downtown and he used to work day shift. God bless. |
No prob, Greg. PM me your address and I will send it.
Not sure what you mean about black cloth? |
The black seat cloth material. The sides and back are french vanilla vinyl. Their (SMS) black is a little off on the pattern. Look at Jim's car, your car and then look at Riley's car. It looks great, but doesn't match yours or Jim's or Jon's (from Atlanta).
Sending PM now. |
Ahh...the pattern on the inserts? He had the vinyl redone somewhere and the color is/was off.
Mine are nice enough that I'm leaving them in there. The vinyl might need to be replaced, depending on how well it cleans up. You can see how dirty it looks in the pic with the belt above. |

yeah, the black cloth inserts for the seating surfaces. I had the sample from SMS in front of me and pulled up some photos that Jon sent me before he sold his car. Something didn't look right. I then looked at Riley's car and the material on his seats matched the sample in front of me.
The original looks black with white dots going both vertically and horizontally. The SMS sample is a little different, but similar enough that the untrained eye wouldn't catch it. Below - original. This matches yours, right, Mike? |

Yep...the ones from Jon are like mine (correct).
Best pic I can come up with right now.... |

Here's a good shot of the rear, and the contrast between the vinyl and carpet color. Pretty nice shape.
|
Thank you!!!! The more photos for reference the better!!
I'm going to print all of these out in color soon and go by 2 or 3 upholstery shops to get a quote on recovering if I drop the seats off. |
No prob...that's what we're here for.
Good luck. |

Mike.....can we trade seats please? :) Here is a photo of mine.
what say you? |
Like the old saying goes.....some are better than others.
I was really lucky on the '82. The '83 TX car looks way worse than your '82 all over. |
Jim, what's wrong with you? Clean that car up!! :D

She looks good in white. If I had to pick a solid color and go the route like Bill did with his black beauty, I prefer a white car more than a black one. But...it would be a hard decision on this car since it was originally black. I think I would have to go all black, too.
But I plan to keep her b/w unless local laws change. I'm going to get the white portion done first with the necessary black surrounds on the door jambs and inner part of the door. I want the doors removed, done right, with new hinge pins and door lock strikers. Michael rubbed off on me. :D |
