This one is a legit 93 CHP (VIN is PF111921), being cloned as a SMPV -

Here is the new page in our VIN Project, which includes a picture that the seller sent me of the numbered key -

Hmmm...never seen that one before. Pretty bad SMPV clone with that white roof.

If he had the picture of the SMPV why wouldn't be paint it the way it was in the picture?!!!

So I'm looking to possibly buy this thing...I noticed he's got the title listed as salvage, I asked and he stated the 9 out of 10 x CHP cars have salvage titles. Any CHP experts or a consensus on this?

If that's the case, then the 85 I bought in California was 1 outa 10! The salvage title on this 93 could be the result of any number of things. You could pay for an AutoCheck or CARFAX to see what shows up. It may be worth the money to see what it says (if anything - those reports are only as good as what gets reported).

So I ran the Carfax on it and sure enough a rebuilt title. BUT, the original salvage title and junk title were issued right at 99,714. The last CA DMV mileage reading(assuming CHP custody) was at 99,714. All of this was around December 1996. No new owner reported, no activity until May 2002. From the CHP yard pics and some postings on here isn't that when they liquidated the mustang fleet? With the new owner a rebuilt title was issued. Car was in Oakland until 2014 when it appears the guy who is selling this now obtained it. Looks like he put paint on it and is trying to turn it for a profit of how much, I don't know. Thoughts?

Personally, I would steer clear of any car with a salvage title. No matter what you do to the car, it will always be a salvage title car and will always fetch much less money than a clear title car.
