never in service sc ssp

I'm new here and I have a chance to buy a 93 ssp car that was ordered by a local dealer here in spartanburg sc it was one of ten that the state did not take and was sold to individuals. The car has full documentation and looks almost as good as the day it was delivered 67000 miles. My question is one is it as desirable as one the was actually used by and agency and two what kind of value would the car have. Thanks

It's really a personal preference and decision but for me, and most on this, the attraction to SSPs is centered on their time in service and that associated history. I like any low mile Mustang, but an SSP that wasn't ever in service is the kind of tug-of-war concept (so to speak) that doesn't do much for me. If you like SSPs and want to go in that direct, still a number of really nice ones available for sale.

+1, what he said. Value wise, I'd say $5k to $6k (economy still in the tank). The Beverly Hills SSP (1 of 1, with an in-service history) just sold on eBay for less than $6k with about the same mileage.

There are several known instances where SSP's were ordered but not put into service. In Oregon, most of the "extra" 1988 SSP's were converted into Saleens, and the others were sold off the dealer's lot to the public. There were some New York SSP's that were refused by the agency for being optioned incorrectly, so those were sold to the public as well. I don't recall with any certainty the events around the South Carolina SSP's being sold to the public, so I hope someone else chimes in.

As others have stated, the appeal for many SSP fans is the in-service history that each car holds. The search for documentation becomes its own reward for many. However, the story for some cars will never be known because the records are no longer available. SSP's that have history and documentation will have more value than an "unknown" SSP in similar condition. However, that SSP from South Carolina no doubt holds a slightly higher value than a civilian notchback in similar condition - it's just difficult to put a dollar amount to it.

Good luck, and keep us posted. If you get a chance to take some pictures, please share them with the group. We are collecting pictures of the door VIN stickers, buck tags, window sticker, etc for our VIN project, so we would certainly include this car in the database if we can confirm it to be a SSP.

I ended up buying the car and got it home yesterday,(bought it from my friend who got it from the original owner). I took a few pictures and will follow up with more when the weather is a little nicer.

I love the car completely original and untouched and drives like new.

Congrats on the purchase! Looks like a very nice car.

Sweet ride, and I wouldn't let the lack of having any service history bother you one bit. Nice!

Thanks

I'm new to these cars and just wondering if anyone knows, all the pictures I have seen of the SC cars have black side and door moldings and this one has the color matched. Did the HP changed these moldings or were they normally ordered with the black?

IIRC, all Mustangs in 1993 (including SSPs) came with body-colored moldings.

Body-colored for all starting in '92.
