Great pics! I like the masking job on the blue one.

NoDrama43 07-18-2011 09:36 PM

great photos... Not very often you see a lot full of ssp mustangs for sale.

thanks for posting them up !

28HopUp 07-19-2011 07:17 AM

Thanks for sharing those pictures. Those are literal snapshots showing a tiny window into the history of our cars. Pretty cool stuff!

MOstang 07-19-2011 07:27 AM

Pretty neat to see all those old photos.

mac88chp 07-19-2011 12:14 PM

Thanks for sharing those. The sight of those mask jobs makes me doubly happy mine was sold with no repaint and most of the original paint still intact!

I was lucky enough to have been able to check out the sales lot around 2001 when a few Mustangs that had been converted to u/c units were up for sale. The repaints on them were many times more superior to the ones found on the regular runouts. Wish I would have taken some photos (or better yet purchased one!).

Mustang Kid 07-19-2011 02:47 PM

Look at the liscense plate #s, you may find your 91-93 or someone elses car :)
I like this photo, one factory white CHP and a factory b/w with the doors painted black ready for sale.

Trunk equipment in #881506. Possibly a 93 as the blue sales lot cars # started with 88.

Bingo! One of those photos caught my car from the opposite vantage point of the earliest photo I have of it dated July 1999. Units #3035 and #2948 were the last Mustangs assigned to Skid Pan and that’s the lot where they went after being runout (for a second time in their careers!) from academy duty and were awaiting disposition from Motor Trans.

#3035 in the same spot:

#2948 in the same lot:

#895392. The interior shots are blurry, but you can still see how stuff was mounted.

Note the spotlight wires wrapped around the shaft and the radio/scanner thing (my dad told me what it was, but I forgot) in the factory radio hole.

I found some pics of a couple wrecked stangs, so they will be on here as soon as I get them scanned into the computer.
:postpics:
It would be as I dont have stories of the cars, until a couple of the wrecks...

ImEvil1 07-19-2011 11:00 PM

Those interior shots are great! SMPV, too (anyone notice the shotgun rack?)

Mustang Kid 07-20-2011 12:31 AM

Is it moved forward at the base to put the rack at more of an angle to help hide the barrel of the gun?

Rhino 07-20-2011 12:43 AM

Looks like it's somewhat mounted the same but slightly lower. With the mounting holes we've seen on other SMPVs, I would have thought that they had a different rack all-together.

Mustang Kid 07-20-2011 12:49 AM

They could have been mounted flat on the floor (thats what they did on the 02 camaros), but my dad has never seen a CHP mustang rack floor mounted and I havent either.

E435300_SMPV 07-20-2011 01:24 AM

Here is a Photo of my 89 CHP SMPV floor. The mounting holes are definitely different from the standard B&W. After matching the holes up with some of my equipment I believe I have the holes labeled correctly.

mac88chp 07-20-2011 01:38 AM

Great photos. Some interesting points:

This '93 is missing the "Safety and Service" scripts on the rear quarter panel.
http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...angs/mtm26.jpg

That's a Regency MX3000 scanner, same as what came on my car. Normally mounted on the right side of the trans hump, it may be located here to accomodate the modified gun rack which laid the weapon down along that area:
http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...angs/mtm14.jpg

Notice how when they repainted this '92 (which was originally factory B&W) to the SMPV all-white scheme, they left the beltline moldings black instead of painting them body color as is the norm for the '92s and '93s. I have a photo of a '93 SMPV that has that treatment also:

Hey Mike,
In that White SMPV, Interesting that they mount the scanner in the factory radio area and when did they use the Regency MX5000. I thought they used the MX3000 or the Turbo Scan in our SSP's.

1jerryl 07-20-2011 06:16 AM

Noticed that the SMPV only has one spotlight on it.......

Exactly! If you look closely, you can see the difference between the mounts. The pic above it shows a shotgun lock, but that one looks like a rifle lock to me.

Ken-to my knowledge they didn't use the MX5000, only the M100, MX3000 and TS-2 (Turbo Scan) with some Uniden MR8100 installs in the later cars, '92 and '93s. In the photos, unit #5392 has a Uniden mounted in the stock radio area.

Looks like a dual gun mount in #5392. Probably held a Ruger Mini-14 with the unit being stationed in a rural area:

That's the first shot I've seen of one in a Mustang.

One of the CHP crown vics my dad got (still has all the decals on it:D ) still had the out of service signs in it. I was happy cause now my dad and I can use them when we get our police cars restored, maybe take the signs and have them copied too.

93chipper 07-21-2011 10:18 PM

looks like the one in the crown vic mine is in bad shape
