GSP Perm / Badge / Troop / Post numbers

It's a great day for any GSP owners out there. I have info on every GSP bought between 1983 and 1992. Still waiting on the four previously unknown 82 GT Hatchbacks that were used by GSP as test vehicles.

Examples;
My cars...

1983 GSP Mustang Vin ending in 188933
Perm# 3083
Badge# 99
Troop A
Assigned first to Post 5 Dalton Ga
Transferred to Post 41 Lafayette Ga (still Troop A)

1988 GSP Mustang Vin ending in 225812
Perm# 8301
Badge# 757
Troop B
Assigned first to Post 32 Athens Ga
Transferred to Troop E
Post 8 Madison Ga

I've provided three other GSP owners with they're info ( including the ASU GSP that there was no info on)

These are just a few but if anyone wants they're GSP checked PM me your Vin #.
I will be glad to help out.

P.s. I was even able to find a retired GSP officers old Mustangs Perm and Vin # by his Badge #! How kewl is that! He had long forgotten it and now he has that info again! Be really kewl if he could track it down :-

That is awesome, Bobby! :2thumbs:

nighthawk756 10-14-2013 08:44 AM

Bobby is becoming the foremost info guru for GSP cars haha! Good job Bobby, the info you've been able to acquire is immeasurable!

MOstang 10-14-2013 11:42 AM

That's great access to info for all the GSP SSP owners. :yes:

ImEvil1 10-14-2013 02:34 PM

Glad you were able to get the info....nice job!

kapracing 10-15-2013 04:36 PM

Thanks everyone :-) This is a real blessing for all GSP owners and to the SSP community as well. Ga has been one of the states with the least info available, but I'm trying my best to change that! I've made some really great contacts (really great people as well) and now the reigns are loosening :-)

I've been asked to try to locate the GSP Bronco II. I was told body codes for them are U12 or U14.

Well I found one single Vin with U14 body code.
States only Ford / color Blue /perm & post #'s

Can someone run this Vin to make sure it comes back as a 1985
Bronco II ?

VIN
1FMCU14S7FUB63961
(Now this stuff is hand written so the 8th letter S could actually be a 5 )

Please post up results good or bad...

Thanks,
Bobby

FoxChassis 10-15-2013 09:54 PM

7 is not the correct check digit but 2 is

There are 0 records for 1FMCU14S2FUB63961.

1FM = multi-purpose vehicle manufactured in USA
C = 4001-5000 lbs gross vehicle weight
U = utility vehicle
14 = 4x4 Bronco II
S = 2.8L V6 engine
2 = VIN check digit
F = 1985 model year
U = Louisville Assembly
B63961 = consecutive unit number

Code are from here: http://www.westcoastbroncos.com/Bron...in%20Tech.html

kapracing 10-15-2013 10:00 PM

Remember this stuff is hand written :-)

I'll ask him and see...

There's no car fax records.

Makes sense....cars that never made it out of service usually don't have any Carfax records.

kapracing 10-16-2013 09:17 AM

Yep that's what I was thinking :-)
I've also noticed even cars wrecked in service more times than not have no records. Mostly the wrecks that show up on car fax ( on GSP's) are ones that were repaired. Totals are generally not listed nor were they sent in for salvage titles. I've personally seen 3 totaled GSP SSP's with clean clear titles. So either they may still have it or like Possum stated it could have been flooded and there for totaled and no records...

I will do some checking (curiosity has got the best of me ) lol

P.S.
The Bronco II was assigned to Badge # 626

ImEvil1 10-16-2013 10:54 AM

Yep...we've seen that over the years, too. Also, cars that were bought from agencies at auction, then parked and never registered by the purchaser.

kapracing 10-17-2013 09:53 PM

Found two more Bronco II's
1983
1FMCU14T3GLL22970
1987
1FMCU14T5HUC22593

All blue
83 used at Garage and Gov. Mansion.
87 assigned to post 35 Jekyll Island also.

Found the T-Bird.

Was acquired in 91 used given Perm #1153 on 2/25/91.
Was sent to DOAS Surplus (not running) to be sold on March 3rd 1992.

The 1983 is actually 1986.

T = 2.9L V6 (new for 1986)
G = 1986 model year

That is strange ... It is in with the 83's and has a 83 Perm # ...

FoxChassis 10-17-2013 11:08 PM

Also, first year for Bronco II was 1984.

Can you read the whole VIN? This is the one that I reconstructed for you, right?

Correct first 4 letters are obscured. These documents are hand written in pen and the first couple digits of this Vin somehow got wet/smeared...

FoxChassis 10-18-2013 06:27 AM

The part that is not smeared that you can read, did I reconstruct it correctly?

Not sure...
All that's legible is
U14GLL22970

In that order. I was looking for the body codes 12U and 14U and found this partial.

FoxChassis 10-18-2013 08:18 AM

U14 is Bronco II 4WD.
G is definitely 1986.

I though the second L (first character of the CUN) was high but it depends on how many Fords were made at that assembly plant (1st L = Wayne, MI assembly plant) that year and what the Bronco II started with. I believe all utility vehicle, truck, and van CUNs start with a letter and then have five numbers, whereas cars have six numbers.

Can you make out the engine and the check digit? They are between the U14 and the G, i.e. U14__GLL22970.

Nope sorry this vin has water damage only one on the page that does! Lol go figure?

Great stuff Bobby.

Thanks Jonathon :-)
It was a real blessing the way this all turned out...

Just thought I'd share the method to the madness of GSP numbering system. New cars arrive and are placed on left side of fenced in lot of Motor Pool in no particular order. They are then pulled one by one (again no particular order) and assigned a perm/ unit # which stays with that vehicle for life of said vehicle. It is also decaled (everything except roof/badge #'s) and then put back into fenced this time on right side. Where it sits until time it is assigned to its new officer. At that time it is once again pulled and equipment installed ( usually from officers old unit), roof/badge #'s are applied & tags are put on and off she goes into service. So that is why unit #'s correspond in no way with VIN#'s.

That's a nice visual, Bobby. I'm sure most agencies follow a similar "madness" to their numbering as well. :)

Bobby,

I have misplaced the info you gave me on our '91 GSP, VIN 1FACP40E1MF176527. Would you mind posting it up for me? Thanks man.

Jonathon,
Here's your cars info;

1991 GSP
VIN #176527
Perm # 1262 ( last perm assigned to a 91 Mustang)
Trooper / Badge # 623
Troop A
Post 38
Rome Ga.

I've got my contact finding out Troopers name. Will post up as soon as I find that out info ...

Bullitt1609 03-07-2014 10:15 AM

Thanks Bobby.

I talked with the eBay seller for my warranty card. I did buy it from him. He said he picked it up at a swap meet in Phoenix about 7 years ago. He thought it was great that it was making it back to the car.

UPDATE...

Well,
Lately I've been working closely with GSP on a huge project. So now, not only can I give you GSP owners the 1983-1991 GSP SSP's info, I also have the Trooper's names to match the badge #'s as well... I also have a lead on getting the complete 92 information...
More to come...

28HopUp 04-04-2015 09:37 AM

That is GREAT work Bobby! I will have to connect with you to see what information we can include in our VIN Project for each GSP. ;)

kapracing 04-10-2015 07:15 PM

UPDATE...

I now have the complete GSP info for all GSP Mustangs including the elusive 92's. Big thanks to all the men and women of the blue & gray !!!!
