I Found Some History on My FHP!!!!

Well the carfax showed my car was a LE vehicle up until 1993 titled in Auburndale, FL. On a hunch I called Auburndale PD and left a message for a LT Houser about my car. He called me back today and sure enough, my car was one of two Auburndale PD School Resource Officer Cruisers...but not a DARE car. It was not used for any patrol duties, just as a car for the SRO to use and show the kids. It had a Street Hawk Lightbar and was painted white with a blue stripe and APD seal. He was not sure which of the two, but one had the lightbar stolen off of it in the PD lot.
We talked for awhile about all types of things, including my PD's ugliest cruiser. He is going to check around and see if he can find any old pictures of my car from when it was inservice with them.

Here is a pic from their website with the former designs. The lightbar on the Explorer is the same style used on my SSP. They have since went to all black and white cruisers.

Good info. Another example of doing a little research and turning up something interesting.

Smaller agencies sometimes bought a few cars that were at the state surplus auctions before they went to the public. I worked with a guy on a drug task force who worked for a smaller Sheriff's department. They bought a '93 from FHP and painted it white (this was in '97) and assigned it to him.

This didn't take place often, but it did happen.

Thanks, I think I am going to stick with the FHP design. That SH would have to look like crap on a Mustang. I actually just received my chain drive Jetsonic and rear dashmasters this past week. I hope to put them on in the spring when I replace the carpet and rear deck.

Exactly, when he told me that I started to laugh. Those things even look huge on CV's. He told me they have finally upgraded to the LED bars and black and white paint schemes.

The SRO who drove my car is now a LT for Clearwater PD. He sent him a request asking if he had any old photos of my car. So for now I am keeping my fingers crossed.
