MSHP Trooper Dies After Hit By Car On Xmas
 
Sorry to post sad Christmas news, but here is a Press Release from the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Corporal Dennis Engelhard lost his life while completing an accident investigation Christmas morning.

EMPHASIS: Corporal Dennis E. Engelhard Dies After Being Struck By Car On Interstate 44

On Friday, December 25, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. Corporal Dennis E. Engelhard was completing an accident investigation on westbound Interstate 44 east of Eureka, Missouri. While waiting for a tow truck to arrive, Corporal Engelhard was struck by an SUV while standing behind his patrol vehicle. Corporal Engelhard was transported to the St. Clair Health Center by Eureka Ambulance with serious injuries. At 11:20 a.m., Corporal Engelhard died from the injuries he sustained as a result of the crash. The crash is currently under investigation and more information will be released when the investigation is completed. Corporal Engelhard, age 49, was a ten year veteran of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

"The Missouri State Highway Patrol is saddened by the loss of one our troopers today," stated Colonel James F. Keathley, superintendent of the Patrol. "We have lost one of our own in a Christmas day traffic crash, and our thoughts and prayers go out to Dennis' family. As we make our way through this holiday season we should all keep Dennis' family in our thoughts and remember that traffic crashes can affect everyone's lives. So please drive with care and urge your loved ones to do the same."

Terrible. Just another as to why motorists need to move over, away from patrol cars on the side of the road. Why don't people pay attention! It just makes me mad.
