Information needed for '86 AZ SSP mustang
I've got an '86 AZ SSP mustang, from what I can tell it served with the Prescott AZ police department at one time, then became a dare car. Would Prescott Police and AZ DPS be the same thing? If not, does anyone have any pictures of a Prescott, AZ police car? It was a white '86 SSP, Blue interior, no console, only options are tilt wheel and A/C. It has a center mounted antenna on the trunk, had a light bar, and single spotlight. It looks like it would have been setup exactly the way an AZ DPS car would have been. I need to figure out what the correct siren is, which antenna I need for the trunk, and what interior equipment I need.
Any help is very much appreciated. Best, Chris |
I would contact them directly via email. Use their website and find an email address. Let them know what you are doing and some of your questions and you may just luck out. I did that with my FHP to find out that the City of Auburndale used my car for their SRO. If your real lucky and it did serve there you might be able to get in contact with the Officer that drove her.
Good luck! |
Prescott Arizona has it's own police department
it is in Yavapai county. Yavapai County Sheriffs office (another police department) jurisdiction in the un incorporated areas of the county. and the DPS....the department of public safety (state police) I have never heard of the Yavapai County Sheriffs office or the city of Prescott having any SSP Mustangs so it would be my guess that. the car started it's life in (law enforcement) with the Arizona department of public safety and was later donated to the Prescott police department for their use as a D.A.R.E Car let us know what you find out!:) |
Andy, I think your guess is absolutey right. The more I thought about it today the more I thought that might be the case. The car looked to be ordered exactly as the AZ DPS cars were, and the buck tag says something to the effect of Special Service - Arizona. I need to contact the department and see if they have any information for me.

Anyone have any clues on the correct siren, control box, etc?
Thanks! |
As a few members requested, here are some pictures of it. I can't stand the way that (incorrect) matching trim looks on these cars, so I'm painting it back charcoal like it should be until the whole car gets repainted white.
My plan is to restore it back to AZ DPS in-service specs, from what I read on the .org website this is around one of 20 cars used by AZ in '86. This particular car would have had a Jetsonic setup, the original radio for the car was included but I haven't picked it up yet. This is the most rust-free '86 SSP I've ever seen, not a spec of rust anywhere thanks to the AZ climate. http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k9...NG/AZDPS01.jpg http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k9...NG/AZDPS03.jpg http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k9...NG/AZDPS04.jpg http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k9...NG/AZDPS06.jpg More on the way next... |
