Both of those cars appear to have been originally painted "Light Regatta Blue". Did CHP have SSPs that color?

I skimmed over the entire 19-page thread on that first car. Attached is a copy of the build sheet he posted, which lists the VIN as 247583 (part of a 36-car CUN batch). That number is not part of the CUN batch of known CHP Mustangs, but the build sheet does identify CALIFORNIA on it. I wonder if this car was purchased by the State of California for another agency or government use? Maybe it was a driver's ed car? Regardless, you can make out the words SPECIAL SERVICE PKG on the build sheet. Guess I should add this SSP (or a number near it) to my list of desired Marti Reports.

I'm not sure where the seller is located, but it doesn't sound like he wants that much money for it. Somebody save it.

:)

The firewall apears black, and the lower part of the front bumper is still black (a common repaint configuration by the CHP prior to auction). The price seems a bit high from what little is shown, but I will ask the seller for more pictures to see what we can learn.

Bill:

Did you see the '86 CHP door tag and buck tag on the second page? It's painted red now.

Also...to note - my 85 CHP was painted almost the same color as this one from their one-day paint and body work. Seems consistent.

I still cannot believe how many 85s have been surfacing. Guess ours are not so rare afterall? :)

While a little high - the price is not too bad. Have seen worse. Could be a good project for someone who wants to join our ranks of 85 CHP owners. :)

Id be willing to pick up that first car but there has to be more confirmation than a copy of a build sheet.

Is there anyone close that could help?

Ted
