That's not an 84 nose. I asked the seller for a picture of the VIN label.

Pricey but cool car. Do we have a number of 84's that the CHP had?

It has been reported that the CHP ordered 250 cars in 1984. These were produced under a single DSO number (from what we know currently), but Ford manufactured them in two matches of VINs separated by a large number of non-CHP cars. This gap of civilian cars is the reason we do not identify unconfirmed cars in our VIN Project as SSP Mustangs when their VIN is in between confirmed cars - each VIN must be substantiated.

Strangely, it seems as though the 84s have not survived as well as some other years which saw fewer cars ordered by the CHP.

My text to the seller failed to send. If anyone contacts the seller, please post up the VIN if he provides it. A photo of the VIN label would be even better.

Thanks, Bill. The '84 CHP's are really growing on me. I've got some nice in-service pics I'll have to post soon.

As far as survival rate, Approximately 10% of the '82's have shown up. I'd venture a guess there's another 5-10% out there still. I never would have thought that 8-10 years ago. I'm not very familiar with the '84's but it seems at least 10 have shown up over the years.

Related, 16-18 years ago in Chicago I went to look at an 84 CHP for sale. It still had the original civilian owner, tons of miles and logbooks for every single repair. It was almost pink because the repaint had faded so much. I didn't know a ton about what I was looking at and passed. Years later it came back up for sale with a new owner. The rust had began to take its toll. Never saw or heard of it again.

I try to keep that up to date with all of the known SSPs (from the VIN Project). Last time I updated it was Dec 27, 2016. All columns can be filtered so, for example, it's easy to see how many known 1984 CHPs have been found. :)

I sent a request to the seller for the VIN and pics of the door and buck tags but I already figured the VIN out. This one is 1FABP26M4EF203929.

Door tag painted over and buck tags gone.

Looks like you've got 11 in there. Thanks for keeping track.
