87 FHP in the corral

Drove to Warner Robbins GA Friday and spent the night at Gregg Henderson's. Then on Saturday Gregg and I drove down to sunny Florida to pick up the 87 car and take it back to his place. I drove back to Ohio with the car on Sunday.

When I first saw the pictures of the car I was a little skeptical but it turns out it is an excellent candidate for restoration. The car has both buck tags, certified speedo, all original body panels with no rust, original blue hoses and air silencer, with no modifications to the motor. Origianl door tag was masked over when the car was painted and is still legible. One key lock set with a five locks operational. The car still has the original black ten holes on it. It has an extra antenna hole in each rear quarter panel but all the body panels are very very straight with very few door dings etc. The interior was a mess and I will have to replace just about everything in the interior, including the dash since it has a 4" by 6" hole hacked into it.

I looked for a build sheet but as usual I found nothing. I am going to put a battery in it and try to get her fired up over the weekend. This car was used by Fort Mead Fl pd as a seargeants car after its time with FHP. I am still working on getting the unit number. Fort Mead PD may be able to help me with that since they think they still have some records in storage regarding the car. I will know more after they look for me.

pics will be posted over the next few days. she aint to pretty but she is solid............

I need an 88 and I might have it located already. I need a 1991 to complete the set.

getting a good variety of cars has been tough but here is the breakdown.

82 CHP
83 FHP
84 WSP
85 TXDPS
86 ISP
87 FHP
88 AZ (probably)
89 MSP
90 ??? (still a secret) :)
91 ??? still looking
92 CHP
93 SCHP

I have the 84 OSP car but it is promised to someone and I have the 93 "last" FHP car.

Jim didn't mention the special SSP fog lights, "Square" spotlight, hanging in the breeze driver's tail pipe and "SUN" tach on the steering column. It never ceases to amaze me what some people do to these cars.

Having said all that - the car is really straight and all the panels have the tags on them. All the engine harnesses/vaccume lines etc are there. It was a good save and will be a beautiful car when completed. You have to have the ability to look beyond the present condition and see the potential to do this hobby.

Very cool. Congrats on the latest addition to the SSP family! You need me to set up a Fotki account for you so we can all all see the cool cars?

The 89 FHP car that my buddy just picked up down here was also from Fort Meade. I got three VR60s off of the car from him, it was very original and basicaly sat since the auction from them. It was painted black and white.

Unfortunatley he is not restoring his, just keeping it as an all black lightly modded driver.

Very nice addition Jim, I've always liked the '87-'89 cars the best for their black wheels, interiors and performance and they look great in FHP livery too. This is the car MJ located, right?
