Just thought I'd share the method to the madness of GSP numbering system. New cars arrive and are placed on left side of fenced in lot of Motor Pool in no particular order. They are then pulled one by one (again no particular order) and assigned a perm/ unit # which stays with that vehicle for life of said vehicle. It is also decaled (everything except roof/badge #'s) and then put back into fenced this time on right side. Where it sits until time it is assigned to its new officer. At that time it is once again pulled and equipment installed ( usually from officers old unit), roof/badge #'s are applied & tags are put on and off she goes into service. So that is why unit #'s correspond in no way with VIN#'s.
