Default 87 FHP car

hey guys,
I just purchaced an 87 SSP FHP mustang and am at a dead end on finding the history on the car. I have tried FHP and the DMV with no luck. I have the info on the buck tags and of coarse the VIN number. Can I find out which troop this served in or maybe the car number too?
I know its a real SSP car but it would be great to know a little more about the car. Cant wait to restore it !! thanks ! Steve

There are quite a few FHP owners on here, so I hope they can chime in. My suggestion would be to (manually) search through the threads to look for similar inquiries. IIRC, there should be a property tag in your glove box.

I don't know if you have any pictures posted yet of your car, but we LOVE pics around here. IMHO, the FHP cars are one of the nicest looking SSP's that were ever put into service.

Congrats on the purchase, Steve.

Do you have a Carfax report on your car?

Unfortunately, most FHP stations long ago destroyed the records associated with these cars, so you may be out of luck. We have had success in getting crash reports from DSHMV, but they recently made some changes there and are only going back 7 years. Alot of the cars weren't wrecked in-service anyway, but it was a nice little way to get the tag (and unit number) for cars that had been hit.

I've suggested title searches to people in the past; the unit numbers were usually handwritten on the titles at the auctions. I haven't heard from anyone that was able to find a copy of their original title yet, though.

Good luck.

I don't own this FHP SSP anymore, but if you click on the link below you'll see an example of how the original unit # and troop were hand written on a title.

Unit #1164 and Troop L. I should add the vehicle ran over debris on highway while in service and so I was able to get copy of the Accident Report and associated photos, which confirmed the Unit # and Troop were as what had been written on the title.
